(From *Bie Lu* [Separate Record])
[Names] Nai Zhi (Milk Juice) (*Gang Mu* [Compendium]), Xian Ren Jiu (Immortal Wine). Shizhen said: "Ru" (Milk/Breast milk) represents the trust of transformation; hence the character consists of 'Fu' (trust/egg) and 'Hua' (transform), with the latter abbreviated.
Practitioners of esoteric arts hide its true name, calling it Immortal Wine, Fresh Human Blood, or White Cinnabar, among various other names. Essentially, breast milk is transformed from Yin blood, generated in the Spleen and Stomach, and regulated by the Chong Mai (Penetrating Vessel) and Ren Mai (Conception Vessel). Before conception, it flows downward as menstruation; after conception, it is retained to nourish the fetus; after childbirth, the red blood transforms into white and flows upward as breast milk. This is the profound subtlety of creation, a natural wonder. Practitioners of heterodox methods force breast milk extraction from young girls and propagate theories such as "converting menstruation back into milk," inventing clever names to deceive the greedy and foolish. These are acts of demons, punishable by royal law, which gentlemen should reject. For medicinal use, only the milk of a healthy woman who has given birth to a male infant for the first time should be taken; white and thick milk is superior. Milk that is yellow-red, thin, and foul-smelling like saliva should not be used. Milk during pregnancy is called "Ji Nai" (Forbidden Milk); if infants drink it, they will suffer vomiting and diarrhea, developing Kan Disease (infant malnutrition syndrome), which is most harmful.
[Flavor and Toxicity] Sweet, salty, neutral, non-toxic. Daming said: Cold.
[Indications] Tonifies the Five Zang Organs, making the body plump, skin fair, lustrous, and radiant. Treats red, painful eyes with excessive tearing; detoxifies beef from cows that have eaten snakes; when taken with strong fermented soybean juice, it is miraculous (*Bie Lu*). Mixed with sparrow droppings, it removes redness and fleshy growths in the eyes (Su Gong). Benefits Qi, treats emaciation and frailty, beautifies the skin, moistens hair, and stops tearing when applied to the eyes (Daming).
[Elucidation] Hongjing said: Zhang Cang of the Han Dynasty was old and toothless, had hundreds of wives/concubines from his wife's family, and frequently consumed human milk, thus living over a hundred years with a body as plump as a gourd. Zong said: Why does human milk have many effects on treating eye diseases? The Heart generates blood, the Liver stores blood, and the Liver can see when it receives blood. Water enters the meridians and transforms into milk. It is also said that upward it becomes milk, downward it becomes menstruation; thus, we know milk is blood. Is it not appropriate to apply it to the eyes? Blood is Yin, so its nature is cold. People with cold viscera should not consume too much dairy products like milk cakes, butter, or cheese. Although this refers to cow and sheep milk, it still falls within the creation of Yin and Yang. For elderly people suffering from mouth ulcers who cannot eat, drinking warm human milk is very beneficial. Shizhen said: Human milk has no fixed nature. If the person is peaceful and eats bland food, their milk will be neutral; if the person is irritable, drinks alcohol, eats spicy food, or has fire diseases, their milk will be hot. When consuming milk, it must be drunk warm. If dried into powder, it is especially good for medicinal use. *History of the Southern Dynasties* records: He Shangzhi of Song suffered from chronic exhaustion illness and recovered by drinking women's milk. It also states: An elder from Rangcheng lived to 240 years old, drinking only the milk of his great-granddaughter's wife. According to Bai Feixia's *Yi Tong*: Consuming human milk greatly benefits Heart Qi, tonifies brain marrow, stops thirst, treats wind-fire syndromes, and is particularly suitable for the elderly. Use one inhalation at a time, plug the nose with paper, press lips against teeth to rinse, mixing milk with saliva, then inhale inward through the nose, guiding the qi up to the brain via Ming Tang, before slowly swallowing. Five to seven inhalations constitute one session. Inhaling without rinsing is no different from drinking cheese; it only affects the intestines and stomach.
[Attached Prescriptions] Three old prescriptions, eleven new ones. Song of Consuming Milk: Immortal Wine, Immortal Wine, two gourds hold one dou. Brewed from the five elements, it is true醍醐 (ghee/essence), available everywhere in the human realm. When the Dantian is dry, swallowing it moistens the withered throat tower. Drinking over a sheng in the early morning prolongs life, reversing aging under heaven and earth.
Deficiency Consumption and Tuberculosis: Desheng Dan: Take three wine cups of milk from a healthy woman, heat a porcelain plate until extremely hot, place the milk on it, add a small amount of Musk powder and two fen of Aucklandia root powder, mix well, and take. Then drink a cup of strong tea, causing Yang to decline. The next day, take Jieming Dan (Jieming Dan: Take three wine cups of milk, place on the heated porcelain plate as above, mix with one placenta powder, and take). After taking, the face and knees turn red, resembling drunkenness and sleepiness; nourish with a small amount of white rice porridge. (*Ji Jian Fang*)
