[Names] Li Shizhen stated: Its nature is cold like well water and spring water, hence the name.
[Collection and Explanation] Su Song stated: Jingquanshi (Well Spring Stone) is found everywhere near roadsides, with those from Raoyang Commandery being superior. It grows in the middle of fields; one must dig more than a zhang deep to obtain it. Its shape resembles earth-colored soil; it varies in form—round, square, long, short, large, or small—and size. The interior is solid while the exterior is round, layered upon layer. It can be harvested at any time. There is another type resembling Jiangshi (Ginger Stone); many people in later times mistakenly identify this as Jingquanshi, which is incorrect.
Su Song stated: It is produced in Jujia Village, twenty li west of the city of Shenzhou.
[Preparation] Su Song stated: When used, it must be finely ground and processed by "water flying" (levigation). Otherwise, it may cause Lin syndrome (dysuria).
