*Benming Bie Lu* (Additional Records of Famous Physicians) records: The taste is bitter, and it is non-toxic. It primarily treats epilepsy in children, expels pathogenic factors, nourishes the fetus, treats wind-bi syndrome characterized by alternating chills and fever, greenish cataracts in the eyes, and leukorrhea in women.
It grows in places with rotting wood and accumulated grass. When rain falls, caps emerge, resembling *Chaosheng* mushrooms that live only a day, with a yellowish-white color. It is harvested in April.
Li Shizhen states: This is the variety of *Guigai* (Ghost Cover) that is yellowish-white in color, and its efficacy is also similar.
*Guibi* (Ghost Pen) (from *Bencao Shiyi*)
Chen Cangqi states: *Guibi* grows in places contaminated with feces and filth. The head resembles a pen, purple in color. It emerges in the morning and dies by night, named *Chaosheng Mudieluo Hua* (Morning-Born Evening-Falling Flower).
Children call it *Gouniao Tai* (Dog Urine Moss). It treats sores, carbuncles, scabies, and abscesses. Dry it, grind it into powder, mix with oil, and apply topically.
All fungi emerging from the ground primarily treat sores and scabies; those growing on cow dung are especially effective.
Li Shizhen states: This is also a type of *Guigai* but without an umbrella-like cap. It is red-purple and spongy, resembling flowers, hence the name "Flower." Grind into powder and apply to treat chancres.
[Correction] Merged into the entry for *Zhurou* in *Bencao Shiyi*.
[Names] *Zhurou* (from *Bencao Shiyi*), *Zhugu* (from *Bencao Gangmu*), *Zhuxun*.
Li Shizhen states: Grass regrowing is called *Ru*, formed by obtaining damp and humid qi. Chen Cangqi's *Bencao* writes it as *Zhurou* because of its taste.
[Collected Explanations] Meng Shen states: In summer, when rain falls in *Ci* bamboo forests, dripping juice lands on the ground and generates *Ru*. It resembles deer antlers, is white, and is edible.
Chen Cangqi states: *Zhurou* grows on branches of bitter bamboo. It resembles an egg or chunks of meat and is highly toxic. Boil it three times in ash lye, refine it completely, and then consume it like ordinary vegetables. If not sufficiently refined, it will pierce the throat causing bleeding and cause fingernails to fall off entirely. It likely possesses other efficacies that people have not yet fully recognized.
Li Shizhen states: This is indeed *Zhugu*. It grows on the nodes of rotten bamboo roots. It resembles wood ear fungus and is red. Duan Chengshi in *Youyang Zazu* states: In the Jianghuai region, there is *Zhurou*, as large as a pellet, with a taste like *Baishu Ji* (White Tree Chicken). This is that substance. Only the variety growing on bitter bamboo is toxic.
[Flavor and Properties] Sweet, salty, cold nature, non-toxic.
Chen Cangqi states: Bitter bamboo flesh (*Kuzhuru*): Highly toxic.
