[Indications] Treats infantile convulsions, coma, spasms, upward deviation of the eyes, and other such diseases. It also treats headache distending pain caused by Wind-Cold (Toufeng). Observe the areas on the forehead and temples where the collaterals are prominent; dip a rush pith in sesame oil, light it, and cauterize the affected area. This is effective. For painful swelling of external hemorrhoids, cauterization is also used. The oil can dispel Wind and resolve toxicity, while fire can unblock the meridians. For newborns whose breath is faint due to exposure to Cold pathogen, do not cut the umbilical cord immediately. Quickly wrap the infant with heated cotton wadding, heat the placenta, and use the lamp wick to scorch back and forth below the navel. Let the warmth enter the abdomen; once Qi returns, the infant will recover spontaneously. Alternatively, heat the handle of a copper spoon and apply it to the inner eyelid to dispel Wind and reduce redness, which is very effective (Shizhen).
[Innovation] Shizhen stated: Among all lamps, only those burning Sesame Oil (Huma You) or Perilla Seed Oil (Suzi You) can brighten the eyes and treat diseases. The smoke from lamps burning fish oil, poultry/beast oils, rapeseed oil, cottonseed oil, tung oil, soybean oil, and petroleum (Shinao You) damages the eyes and does not treat diseases.
[Attached Prescriptions] Seven new prescriptions. Intestinal twisting sand pain (Jiaochang Sha): Manifests as abdominal pain involving Yin and Yang channels, cold hands and feet, but with red spots on the body. Dip a rush pith in oil, light it, and cauterize the red spots. (*Ji Ji Fang*) Infantile various convulsions: For those falling backward, cauterize the fontanelle and above/below the eyebrows. For those with eyes rolling up, cauterize above/below the navel. For those unconscious, cauterize the palms and soles, and above/below the heart region. For those with clenched fists and upward-gazing eyes, cauterize the vertex of the head and both palms. For those with puckered mouths and white foam, cauterize above/below the mouth, palms, and soles. (*Xiao'er Jingfeng Mijue*)
Bitten by hundred insects: Cauterize with lamp fire; if fluid emerges, it is miraculous. (*Ji Ji Fang*)
Chancre (Yangmei Du Chuang): From Fang Guang's *Xinfa Fuyu*: Use 2 qian of cinnabar formed from lead and mercury, 2 qian of vermilion (Yinzhu), and 1 qian of White Flower Snake (Baihua She). Grind into powder, make seven paper twists. On the first day, use three twists; thereafter, use one twist per day. Light the twist with sesame oil in a warming furnace, place under the quilt for sleeping, ensuring no wind penetrates. Must eat until full, hold pepper tea in the mouth, spit out when hot, and replace. Divine Lamp Moxibustion Method: Use 2 qian of vermilion, 1 qian of Child's Tea (Haier Cha), 1 qian of Longgua Incense, and 1 qian of Soapberry Seed (Zaojiao Zi). Grind into powder, roll in paper to the size of a lamp wick, 3 cun long. Use one strip per application, place in a lamp dish, soak in sesame oil, light, and place in a bucket of water. Sit surrounded by a quilt, inhale the smoke through the nose and swallow, hold cold tea in the mouth, spit out when hot. Perform twice daily. After three days, if the mouth mucosa breaks, rinse with aged soy sauce water. Divine Lamp Illumination Method: Treats Chancre that has been present for years, becoming ulcerated and depressed. Use 3 qian each of vermilion, Zinc Oxide (Shuifen), and Joss Stick (Xianxiang); 5 fen each of Frankincense (Ruxiang) and Myrrh (Moyao); 2 fen of Borneol (Pian Nao). Grind into powder, roll in paper to form a twist, soak in oil, light, and illuminate the sore. Three times daily, effective within seven days. Must first take several doses of Tongsheng San. Temporarily hold pepper tea in the mouth to prevent toxic fumes from entering the teeth.
Chronic Tinea (Ji Xuan) spreading over the whole body: Mix Sulfur (Liuhuang) and Mugwort Leaf (Aiye) evenly to form a twist, soak in oil, light, and fumigate under the quilt. Apply oil to the mouth, nose, ears, and eyes, leaving them exposed. (*Jixuan Fang*)
