[Collection and Explanation] Chen Zangqi said: According to *Guangzhou Ji*: Tengzi grows in the forests of southern Guangzhou. It grows as a vine clinging to trees, similar to *Tongcao* vine. Its fruit takes three years to mature; the pod is like a bow case, and the seeds are as large as chicken eggs, with a purplish-black exterior. Its shell can be used to store alchemical pills without deteriorating over years. The kernels inside are used for medicinal purposes and must be roasted before use.
Li Shizhen said: The seeds are purplish-black with a slight luster, one to two cun in diameter, round and flat. People often remove the flesh to make them into medicine ladles, which are hung at their waists.
[Flavor and Properties] Astringent and sweet, neutral nature, non-toxic.
[Therapeutic Actions] Treats five types of hemorrhoids (*Wuzhi*), gu poison (*Gudu*), flying corpse pharyngitis (*Feishi Houbi*). Grind the kernel into powder, lightly roast, and take with water, one or two bi. It can also be used with soybeans for bathing the face to remove dirt (Chen Zangqi). Treats pediatric rectal prolapse, bloody dysentery, and hematochezia; burn to ash and ingest. Alternatively, take one seed, cut open the pulp, roast and grind, and take 2 qian with hot wine on an empty stomach. Within three doses, it will surely be effective (*Kaibao Bencao*). Resolves various drug toxicities (Li Shizhen, *Caomu Zhuang*).

Take 2 qian each time, washed down with warm wine. After a short while, drink another cup of wine and swallow immediately; extremely effective.
