The nature is slightly warm. The flavor is pungent. It is non-toxic. Long-term consumption removes foul odors and unblocks the spirit (Shen, the spiritual aspect of consciousness).
Ginger's nature is slightly warm. It inherits the Wood Qi of early spring from Heaven. It enters the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Its flavor is pungent and non-toxic. It acquires the Metal flavor of the West from Earth.
It enters the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Both its nature and flavor ascend; it is Yang. Foul odor refers to Yin turbid Qi. Long-term consumption of pungent-warm substances tonifies Yang. Sufficient Yang can eliminate Yin pathogens. Therefore, it removes foul odors. Shen (Spirit) is the灵动 (spiritual vitality) of Yang. Ming (Brightness/Clarity) is the radiance of Yang. Pungent-warm attributes are Yang. Long-term consumption leads to Yang predominance. Therefore, it unblocks the spirit.
Preparation:
Take fresh ginger juice, dry it into powder. Mix with Licorice Root (Gancao), Pinellia Tuber (Banxia), Tangerine Peel (Chenpi), and Poria (Baifu) ground into powder. Treats phlegm caused by dampness stagnation in the Middle Jiao.
The nature is warm. The flavor is pungent. It is non-toxic. It mainly treats alternating chills and fever, scrofula (Shuluo, lymph node tuberculosis), and sores. It breaks up accumulation and Qi stagnation. It descends blood stasis. It eliminates damp-heat abscesses.
Schizonepeta's nature is warm. It inherits the ascending Wood Qi of spring from Heaven. It enters the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Its flavor is pungent and non-toxic. It acquires the Metal flavor of the West from Earth. It enters
the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Both its nature and flavor ascend; it is Yang. The Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian circulates between the exterior and interior. When pathogenic factors invade it, alternating chills and fever occur. Schizonepeta is pungent and warm. It harmonizes and resolves Shaoyang disorders. Therefore, it treats this condition. Scrofula
and sores are all symptoms of Shaoyang Fire stagnation. Schizonepeta’s pungency reaches the Wind-Wood Qi. Its warmth disperses the stagnation of Ministerial Fire. Once stagnant fire dissipates, wind calms, and various symptoms subside. Food enters the Stomach, and essence is dispersed to the Liver. If the Liver fails to disperse essence, Qi accumulates, forming an accumulation disorder. Schizonepeta enters the
Liver. Warmth promotes Qi movement. Therefore, it treats this condition. The Liver stores Blood. Blood follows Qi circulation. If Liver Qi stagnates, Blood also stagnates and forms stasis. Warmth moves Qi. Pungency breaks Blood. Thus, it descends blood stasis. The Lung is the official responsible for regulating water passages. If water passages are blocked, damp-heat forms abscesses. Schizonepeta’s pungency moistens the Lung. When Lung function is normal, water passages clear. Therefore, it eliminates damp-heat abscesses.
Preparation:
Schizonepeta with child’s urine (Tongbian). Treats postpartum epistaxis. With Sophora Flower (Huaihua). Treats hematochezia (blood in stool). With Rehmannia Root (Shengdi). Treats scabies. Schizonepeta seed-head powder taken with wine, 2 qian.
Treats facial paralysis with locked jaw. Also treats postpartum wind-induced locked jaw and coma/stupor.
