[Jiangzhen Xiang (Lignum Dalbergiae Odoriferae)]
The qi is warm. The taste is pungent. It is non-toxic. Burning it can ward off epidemic pathogens and eliminate strange phenomena in dwellings. Children wearing it can ward off evil qi.
Jiangzhen Xiang has a warm qi, inheriting the mild wood qi of spring, entering the Foot-Jueyin Liver Meridian. Its taste is pungent and non-toxic, obtaining the metal taste of the West, entering the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian.
Both its qi and taste are ascending, which belongs to Yang. However, burning it can descend the true heavenly qi, thus warding off epidemic pathogens and strange phenomena in dwellings. Children wearing it can ward off evil qi because its warm and pungent nature belongs to Yang, and Yang energy can repel evil. Those with red color and sweet taste are superior.
Prescription:
Jiangzhen Xiang combined with Baishao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae), Beiwei (Fructus Schisandrae), Danpi (Cortex Moutan), Bai Fu (Sclerotium Poriae Cocos), and Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata) treats hematemesis caused by anger injuring the Liver. Burning it in large quantities can dispel fox-spirit bewitchment. Ground into powder, it treats unceasing bleeding from knife wounds.
[Sufangmu (Lignum Sappan)]
The qi is neutral. The taste is sweet and salty. It is non-toxic. It mainly breaks blood stasis. It treats postpartum abdominal distension and stifling sensation approaching death. Boil five liang in water, take the concentrated decoction orally.
Sufangmu has a neutral qi, inheriting the descending metal qi of autumn, entering the Hand-Taiyin Lung Meridian. Its taste is sweet, salty, and non-toxic, obtaining the water taste of Northern Earth, entering the Foot-Taiyin Spleen Meridian and the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Its qi and taste descend more than they ascend, which belongs to Yin. Sweet taste enters the Spleen, and the Spleen governs blood; salty taste moves into blood, thus breaking blood stasis. For postpartum blood distension and stifling sensation, taking five liang of boiled juice breaks blood stasis.
Prescription:
Sufangmu combined with Zelan (Herba Lycopi), Shengdi (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata), Renshen (Radix Ginseng), Xiaobian (Urine of Human), Yimucao (Herba Leonuri), Niuxi (Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae), and Heidou (Semen Sojae Nigrum Preparatum) treats postpartum syncope due to blood loss. Combined with Renshen, it is named Shen Su Yin (Ginseng and Sappan Wood Decoction), treating postpartum asthma and blackened face resembling death.
[Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis Trifoliae)]
The qi is slightly cold. The taste is bitter. It is non-toxic. It mainly treats cold-heat-damp bi syndrome causing spasm between bones and sinews. It brightens the eyes and strengthens teeth. It benefits the nine orifices. It removes white worms. Long-term use makes the body light and delays aging.
Manjingzi has a slightly cold qi, inheriting the cold water qi of winter, entering the Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Meridian and the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Its taste is bitter and non-toxic, obtaining the fire taste of the South, entering the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian. Both its qi and taste are descending, which belongs to Yin. The Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian governs diseases arising from sinews, and bones are the external correspondence of the Kidney. Manjingzi's coldness clears heat, and its bitterness dries dampness. When damp-heat is eliminated, cold-heat recedes and spasms heal. Cold qi strengthens Water, and bitter taste clears Fire. When Fire is cleared, the eyes become bright; when Water is strengthened, teeth become firm, as teeth are the surplus of the Kidney. The nine orifices refer to two ears, two eyes, two nostrils, one mouth, and one each for urination and defecation. Bitter taste clears Fire, thus benefiting all nine orifices. White worms are transformed from damp-heat; bitter-cold enters the Bladder to drain damp-heat, thus removing white worms. Long-term use making the body light is the effect of dispelling dampness; delaying aging is the power of strengthening Water.
Prescription:
Manjingzi combined with Ganju (Flos Chrysanthemi Indici), Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), Wumei (Fructus Mume), Yacha (Tea Sprouts), Baijili (Semen Tribuli), Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Heidou (Semen Sojae Nigrum Preparatum), and Tufuling (Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae) treats lateral and frontal headache. It is used for those whose vision is about to deteriorate.
