Also known as Mafei Tang (Boiling Water Decoction). Also named Taihe Tang (Great Harmony Decoction). The decoction must undergo one hundred boils to be considered optimal. If consumed when only half-boiled, it will instead damage the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) and cause abdominal distension. (Wang Ying)
The flavor is sweet and neutral. It assists Yang Qi and promotes circulation through the meridians. For those suffering from Bi syndrome caused by wind-cold-dampness, hot water should be poured over the feet up to the knees, covered tightly to induce sweating throughout the body. However, if other herbs are used, they also rely on Yang Qi to exert their effects. (Zong ) In cases of sudden diarrhea in any season, with cold limbs and abdominal pain, sitting in deep hot water, immersed up to the abdomen, performed frequently, is effective. Among herbs that generate Yang Qi, none acts faster than this. Individuals with deficiency-cold constitutions will inevitably tremble upon first entering the hot water; therefore, someone should always remain nearby to monitor them. (Another source) For initial contraction of wind-cold, presenting with headache and aversion to cold: take seven bowls of water, heat a pot until red-hot, pour the water into it, remove, reheat, and pour again. Repeat this seven times, naming it Fei Tang (Boiling Water). Drink one bowl while hot, covering the head with clothing and blankets.
Mix newly drawn cold water evenly with Hundred-Boil Water. Named Yin-Yang Water (Yin-Yang Shui).
The flavor is sweet and salty. For Huoluan (Cholera-like disorder) and vomiting, where food and medicine cannot be retained, in critical and severe cases, drinking a few mouthfuls initially will stabilize the condition. For Tan-Nue (Phlegm-Malaria) and abdominal distension caused by retained food and toxic foul substances, impending Huoluan: add salt to the mixture of raw and cooked water, administer one to two sheng (a traditional unit of volume), inducing vomiting to expel all phlegm and food, after which recovery occurs. The Upper Jiao (Triple Burner) governs reception; the Middle Jiao governs rotting and transforming; the Lower Jiao governs excretion. When the three Jiaos are unobstructed and patent, Yin and Yang are harmonized, ascending and descending circulate continuously, and the Zang-Fu organs function smoothly. Once this pathway is lost, the two Qi become chaotic, and turbid Yin steams upward.
During the steaming of glutinous rice, the steam-condensed water dripping from the four sides of the steamer lid is collected using a plate for use.
Indicated for various Gan accumulation disorders in children, characterized by sores appearing all over the body or on the face, ulcerating into crater-like lesions resembling the yamen sore (syphilitic chancre) in adults. Apply this water to the sores; effectiveness is seen within a few days. When hundreds of medicines fail, using this method is miraculous.
The flavor is salty and cold. Indicated for promoting urination and reducing heat-induced swelling, anal pain and swelling, and impending hemorrhoids. Urgently take water obtained from grinding butcher knives and ingest it; it is very effective. For prolapse of the rectum during childbirth (Pan Chang Chan Zheng), where the tissue remains dry and does not retract: moisten the intestine slightly with knife-grinding water, decoct one cup of Magnetite (Cishi), and take it warm; it will naturally retract.
