Diseases reside within Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi), requiring support of the healthy qi and rescue from counterflow. Acupuncture must observe deficiency and excess based on the patient's emaciation or obesity, and distinguish the depth related to the four seasons; this is the method for selecting acupoints. One need only differentiate Yin and Yang, yet the flow of Qi and Blood in the Xi Gu (valleys between muscles) has directions such as facing wind or opposing wind, and one must understand the rising and sinking of Qi and Blood.
Tracing back to the Fu (rhapsody) by Gu Yicheng in the *Zhiwei Lun* (Treatise on Subtle Indications), one learns about the opening and closing of Qi according to the current season, expounding upon the flowing and pouring of meridians. Each section carries literary style while referencing its methods, and each sentence requires careful preservation through repeated examination of the classics to scrutinize their words. The efficacy of every character is clearly elucidated. Doubts and obscurities are resolved by knowing deficiency and excess; manipulating needles (twisting, attaching, moving pain, stopping pain) yields miraculous results. Upon needle insertion, acute diseases, chronic ailments, and even critical conditions can be stabilized; one must not err in needling.
Detailed observation reveals that on Yin days, blood is guided; on Yang days, Qi flows. Warm needle therapy warms firm and moist conditions, which require deep searching into the twelve meridians. Counting the twelve meridians and fifteen collaterals forms a cycle. Sixty Yin Shu points are governed by Zang organs, and seventy-one Yang points are collected by Fu organs. When needling Yang meridians, one may use horizontal insertion to drain; when draining blood collaterals, fingers should first soften the area. Exhaling corresponds to "Ying" (welcoming/receiving), inhaling corresponds to "Bu" (tonifying). Opposing is considered "Gui" (demon/evil), following is favorable. Why worry about lingering illnesses? Moxibustion is used for dryness and irritability where herbal medicine fails to save; one must select the Eight Hui points. For swelling and stagnation where extraordinary meridians accumulate pathogenic factors, treatment with Bian stones (stone needles) can cure.
Furthermore, Jia Gallbladder and Yi Liver, Ding Heart and Ren Water: what generates me is called Mother, what I generate is called Child. In Spring, Jing-Well points are needled; in Summer, Ying-Spring points; if pathogens are in Autumn, Jing-River points are needled; in Winter, He-Sea points are needled. Violating taboos causes disease recurrence; using days incorrectly leads to decline and difficulty in resolution. Silk collaterals lie in the muscle layers, blood flow emerges from branch collaterals. Dizziness and fainting occur; if meridians are deficient, tonify; if collaterals are excess, sedate. Pain indicates excess, itching indicates deficiency. Sedate the Child following the Mother; the key lies in mental visualization.
Reflecting on ancient sages, their rapid efficacy came from acupuncture; modern people curing diseases cannot depart from medical principles. Xu Wenbo induced abortion in Yuannei with great speed; Fan Jiusi treated throat ailments in Jiangxia, a rare occurrence. Generally, ancient and modern remnants are all taught by later generations following Wang Zuanli Kang's methods. Otters emerging from quilts, Qiufu treating ghosts and achieving efficacy, souls avoiding sorrow. Thus, sensing the subtleties of finger manipulation, if needle Qi becomes chaotic and Shen (Spirit) falls, one must guard against reckless breathing to prevent needle-induced fainting and blood stasis. Texts constantly seek ancient meanings, encountering high sages' true interests, leading to transcendent understanding. Meeting experts for instruction clarifies my role in supporting the critical. Men and women's Qi and pulse movements follow time degrees; during the "Nourishing Child" periods, Qi enters specific acupoints. Acupoints must be determined according to current detailed disease protocols. The divine needle methods extensively search the secrets of the *Nan Jing* and *Huang Di Nei Jing Su Wen*, deeply examining the clever insights in various families' elbow manuals (compilations). Hence, it is called the *Zhiwei* (Subtle Indications) of Lujiang Flowing Pouring, serving as a rule for future learners.
