If one wishes to treat diseases, nothing is better than using acupuncture. Skillfully employing the wonderful efficacy of *Shenji* (the subtle mechanism of the mind and Qi circulation), one can open up the profound principles of the sages. Externally utilizing Bian stones and needles can eliminate pathogenic factors and assist healthy Qi; internally containing Water and Fire (referring to Yin-Yang and cold-heat factors), one can effectively restore Yang and reverse Yin-Yang inversion.
Tracing back to the origin, collaterals branch differently, and meridians interweave. Some are like ditches and valleys, diverging and differing; others are like mountains and hills, existing with gaps. Although these schools of thought are difficult to separate, they have a unified logic within their frameworks, managing complexity with order. What methods exist for tonification and sedation? The swift and clear method is "Ying-Sui" (Following and Opposing manipulation).
For instance, when walking is difficult and movement is hindered, Taichong (LR3) is most miraculous; Renzhong (GV26) eliminates stiffness and pain in the spine; Shenmen (HT7) removes mental dullness; for wind-cold causing neck stiffness, one first seeks Fengfu (GV16); for dizziness and vertigo, one looks for Fengchi (GB20); for ear deafness, Tinghui (GB2) treats it; for eye pain, Hegu (LI4) is combined to push away the pain; for chest constraint and yellow complexion, draining Yongquan (KI1) yields immediate results; for brain dizziness and red eyes, draining Zanzhu (BL2) is convenient.
As for spasms in both elbows, Quchi (LI11) relies on to smooth them out; for toothache, Lüxi (Taixi, KI3) is capable of treating it; for head and neck stiffness, Chengjiang (CV24) can preserve relief; Taibai (SP3) guides Qichong (ST30); Yinlingquan (SP9) opens Shuidao (ST28); for abdominal distension and bloating, Neiting (ST44) is seized to halt delay; for tendon turning and pain, Chengshan (BL57) is drained early.
Generally speaking, for ankle pain, Kunlun (BL60) lifts the siege; for thigh and knee pain, Yinshi (ST32) can cure it; for epilepsy and mania, Houxi (SI3) relies on to heal; for malaria generating chills and fever, Jianshi (PC5) lies in support; Qimen (LR14) removes chest fullness, and Laogong (PC8) can retreat blood stasis and stomach reversal/heart pain, leaving no room for doubt.
Examining Dadun (LR1) removes unilateral hernia, as stated by Wang Gong; Zusanli (ST36) removes emaciation from the five consumptions, as spoken by Hua Tuo. It is known that Wan Gu (SI4) dispels jaundice, Ran Gu (KI2) treats kidney issues, Xingjian (LR2) treats knee swelling, Chi Ze (LU5) removes elbow pain, Er Jian (LI2) is suitable for blurred vision and tight tendons, Ying Xiang (LI20) can guide nasal congestion, Jian Jing (GB21) removes the burden of both arms, Zanzhu (BL24) treats unbearable headache, Lie Que (LU7) is capable of treating cough with cold phlegm, Lin Qi (GB15) is particularly accurate for sticky discharge and cold tears. For bone and leg pain to remove remnants, Shenshu (BL23) treats lower back pain and diarrhea. Yuè Rén treated Corpse-like Coma at Weihui (likely referring to a specific point or technique, possibly related to GV or local points, text says "Wei Hui"), reviving instantly; Wen Bo could expel dead fetus at Yinjiao (CV7), collapsing upon needling.
The Sages thus observed numbness and pain, distinguishing excess and deficiency. Excess enters from outside; deficiency emerges from inside. Therefore, tonifying the Mother [point] compensates for insufficiency, while sedating the Child [point] balances excess. Observing the twenty-seven meridians, distinguishing each clearly; relying on the four hundred and four diseases, trusting that all conditions will be removed. Thus, achieving high medical skill to save people into the realm of longevity, judging subtle mechanisms, and illuminating the mysterious books of antiquity.
It is also heard that for heart and chest diseases, seek Dalin (PC7) behind the palm; for shoulder and back pain, blame Sanli (likely LI10 or ST36 depending on context, here translated as Sanli) before the elbow; for cold bi syndrome, take points above Yin and Yang where there is deficiency; for umbilical and abdominal pain, drain the Water element of Shaoyin (e.g., Yongquan KI1); for pain between the spine and heart, needling Zhongzhu (TE3) leads to immediate recovery; for tendons under the ribs, puncturing Yanglingquan (GB34) stops it immediately; for stiff head and pain, Houxi (SI3) brings peace; for lower back pain, it lies in Weizhong (BL40).
When humans apply this principle, if one understands it, one can achieve the merit of eliminating pathogens, which lies in the twisting of the fingers (manipulation techniques).
