In heatstroke, headache is absent; if headache exists, it is Wind. If heaviness exists, it is Dampness.
Chapter 8: Pulse and Symptom Management of Heat Diseases
Heat diseases arise from external invasion or internal generation. External heat can migrate; internal heat has a fixed location. It does not follow meridian transmission order but resides where it combines. It resembles Warmth diseases but originates differently. Some transmit meridians and transform into heat; latent Qi transforms into warmth. Physicians often fail to understand this, treating them as one entity, which kills people endlessly. I record these points for future sages.

Chapter 9: Pulse and Symptom Management of Dampness Diseases
Dampness pathogenic factors circulate internally, externally, superiorly, and inferiorly, changing with the pathogen and presenting various forms. Diagnose and treat according to principles without losing the guideline.
Dampness in the upper part, affected by fog and dew, causes headache, neck stiffness, and bilateral frontal pain. Floating and choppy pulse indicates Huangqi Guizhi Fuling Xixin Tang (Astragalus, Cinnamon Twig, Poria, and Asarum Decoction) is the primary treatment.

Dampness on the exterior, battling with Wind, flows into meridians, causing bone and joint pain, lying down without appetite. Floating and moderate pulse, choppy on pressure. Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction) induces mild sweating to expel both Wind and Dampness. If aversion to cold, body pain, numbness of limbs, and floating fine tight pulse exist, this is Cold pathogen; combine with Guizhi Mahuang Ge Ban Tang (Half-Guizhi Half-Mahuang Decoction) as the primary treatment.
Gui Zhi Tang Formula
Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig, peeled) three liang
Shaoyao (Peony) three liang
Gancao (Licorice, roasted) two liang
Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger, sliced) three liang
Dazao (Jujube, split) twelve pieces
The above five ingredients: Crush. Boil in seven sheng of water over low heat to obtain three sheng. Remove dregs. Take one sheng at appropriate temperature. Shortly after taking, drink more than one sheng of hot thin porridge to assist medicinal power. Cover with blankets for about an hour until slight continuous sweating occurs throughout the body. Do not allow profuse sweating like flowing water, or the disease will not be resolved. If one dose cures the disease, stop subsequent doses; do not finish the entire preparation. If no sweat, repeat according to previous method. If still no sweat, shorten the interval slightly, finishing three doses within half a day. For severe cases, administer day and night, observing for one shichen (two hours). If symptoms persist after one dose, prepare another. If no sweat occurs, continue to two or three doses. Avoid raw/cold, sticky/slippery, meat, flour, five pungents, dairy/wine, and foul-smelling foods.

Guizhi Mahuang Ge Ban Tang Formula
Combine three he of Gui Zhi Tang and three he of Ma Huang Tang to make six he. Take once. Rest care follows Gui Zhi Tang method.
Dampness inside battles with the Spleen, causing middle jiao fullness. Combined with Stomach cold, it becomes diarrhea. Middle fullness suits Baizhu Fuling Houpo Tang (Atractylodes, Poria, and Magnolia Bark Decoction); diarrhea suits Lizhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction). If affecting the Lung, causing Lung cold, Xiao Qinglong Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) suits. If transferring to the Kidney, causing dribbling urine, Wuling San (Five-Ingredient Powder) suits. If flowing into muscles, causing yellow swelling, Mahuang Fuling Tang (Ephedra and Poria Decoction) suits. If flowing into meridians and combining with Heat, carbuncles and pus develop. If Spleen/Stomach are inherently cold and damp lingers, water retention develops. Combining with Dryness, phlegm-fluid develops. Treatment belongs to Fluid-Disease management.

Taiyang disease with joint pain and vexation, sinking fine pulse is named Wet Bi (Dampness Bi). In Wet Bi, the patient has difficult urination and loose stools. Only promote urination.
Patients with chronic dampness have whole-body pain, fever, and yellowish skin color like smoked yellow.
Patients with chronic dampness only sweat on the head, have stiff back, desire to cover themselves and face fire. If purged too early, hiccups, chest fullness, difficult urination, and slippery tongue coating occur. This is because there is heat in the Lower Dantian and cold in the Chest. Thirst for water but inability to drink, dry mouth and vexation.
If patients with chronic dampness are purged, sweating on the forehead, slight asthma, and free urination indicate death. If diarrhea persists, death also ensues.
Question: Wind-Dampness binding causes whole-body pain. Normally, sweating resolves it. On rainy days, the physician says sweating is indicated, but the disease does not resolve. Why? Master says: Profuse sweating expels only Wind, leaving Dampness behind, hence no resolution. To treat Wind-Dampness, induce slight sweating so that both Wind and Dampness are expelled.
