Xuantai bone, also known as Yuzhu bone, refers to the third cervical vertebra at the back of the neck, also called Tianzhu bone. Injuries to this bone are divided into four types: First, falling from a height causing the cervical bone to insert into the thoracic cavity while retaining left-right mobility; treat with the Neck-Lifting Method (Ti Xiang Fa). Second, blunt trauma causing the head to droop and unable to lift; treat with the End Method (Duan Fa). Third, fall injury causing lateral deviation; treat with the Straightening Method (Zheng Fa). Fourth, falling injury causing the face to look up and the head unable to droop, or muscle-tendon elongation with skeletal dislocation, or muscle-tendon knotting, or muscle-tendon stiffness with the head drooping along with the bone; treat with the Pushing (Tui), Ending (Duan), Continuation (Xu), and Straightening (Zheng) methods. During treatment, inquire whether the injury resulted from falling off a cart or horse, falling from a height, or being struck and tumbling. Ask about appetite (desiring or lacking desire for food), limb condition (no injury vs. injury), mental state (unimpaired spirit vs. diminished spirit), mobility (able to sit/walk vs. comatose/unresponsive), pain persistence, and signs of blood stasis such as swelling, hardness, and distension. These conditions generally warrant internal administration of Zhenggu Zijin Dan (Orthopedic Purple Gold Pill), external application of Wanling Gao (Ten Thousand Spirits Ointment), washing with Haitongpi Tang (Pterocarpus Indicus Decoction), and moxibustion/heat therapy with Dingtong San (Pain-Relieving Powder). External manual therapy should be applied; details are in Volume One.

Suozzi bone, named Zhugu in meridian theory. It lies horizontally outside the Clavicular Fossa (Quepen) on both shoulders, connecting to the shoulder joint at both ends. Fractures caused by blows, or falling off balance while riding or taking items from a vehicle, require manual reduction: first press the chest, then push the shoulder end inward, massage the fracture site to restore alignment, and suspend the arm with a sling around the neck to prevent movement. Internal administration of Renshen Zijin Dan (Ginseng Purple Gold Pill), external heat therapy with Dingtong San, followed by application of Wanling Gao will cure the condition.

Chest Bone Diagram
The chest bone (sternum/thorax) is the collective term for the bones of the chest and hypochondrium. Also called Ying bone or Yi bone, commonly known as the chest. The sides extending from the axilla down to the end of the ribs are collectively called the Hypochondrium (Xie); the small ribs below the hypochondrium are called Ji Xie (Seasonal Hypochondrium), commonly known as soft ribs; "Lei" refers to individual rib bones. Collectively, the chest and hypochondrium are termed the Thoracic Cage. Anterior impacts/falls cause heavier injuries than posterior ones. For mild cases, apply manual therapy, internally administer Zhenggu Zijin Dan, externally apply Dingtong San mixed with wheat bran for heat therapy, wash with Haitongpi Tang, and apply Wanling Gao for efficacy. If internal blood stasis causes swelling/pain and difficulty extending the back, take Qing Shang Yu Xue Tang (Clear Upper Stasis Decoction) and Xiao Xia Po Xue Tang (Eliminate Lower Break-Stasis Decoction) in the morning for upper and lower Jiao respectively, and Shuxue Wan (Blood-Dispersing Pill) in the evening. For chronic injuries with elevated sternum, emaciation, internal pathogenic heat/stasis, Qi stagnation/bloating, blueish eyes, fatigue, phlegm-wheezing/cough, use Jiajian Zijin Dan (Modified Purple Gold Pill) to clear heat, resolve phlegm, regulate Qi, strengthen Spleen, moisten skin, and calm wheezing. Severe injuries penetrating the chest affect the Heart and Lung organs, causing chaotic Qi, coma, closed eyes, vomiting blood/water, hiccups, and tremors; this is critical and incurable. Injuries to the floating ribs should be treated according to severity. Mild chest/hypochondrium injuries may utilize Lidong Wan (Li Dong Pill) or Sanhuang Bao La Wan (Three-Yellow Precious Wax Pill) as needed.
