(From *Ben Shi Fang*) Xingren (Apricot Seed), Yiren (Coix Seed), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root), Duhuo (Angelica Pubescens), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Wallichii), Danggui (Angelica Sinensis), and Fushen (Poria with Hostwood). Suanzaoren (Ziziphus Seed), Muxiang (Aucklandia Root), and Gancao (Licorice Root) combined can restore health in cases of Eclampsia (Zixian) and Wind-stroke. [Lingyangjiao (Antelope Horn) 1 qian, Xingren, Yiren, Fangfeng, Duhuo, Chuanxiong, Danggui, Fushen, and fried Suanzaoren each 5 fen, Muxiang and Gancao each 2 qian. Dazao (Jujube) and Fushen calm the mind and spirit; Chuanxiong and Danggui harmonize the blood; Xingren and Muxiang promote Qi circulation; Yiren and Gancao regulate the Spleen.]
(From *Jin Gui Yao Lue*), Danggui 3 liang, Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) 5 liang, Yangrou (Mutton) 1 jin. It treats postpartum abdominal pain and Rulao (Postpartum Exhaustion Syndrome). (Rulao is characterized by postpartum fever, spontaneous sweating, and body pain. Abdominal pain occurs because if blood stasis has not been eliminated, new blood cannot be generated.) Some prescriptions add Renshen (Ginseng), (as Qi generates Blood. Mutton is pungent and hot; using substances belonging to Qi and Blood tonifies both. Danggui guides into the Blood level, Shengjiang guides into the Qi level, thereby generating new blood. Adding Renshen and Huangqi (Astragalus) represents simultaneous tonification of Qi and Blood.) Qianjin Siwu Gangu Jiang: The Mutton Decoction from *Qian Jin Fang* contains Chuanxiong, Danggui, Baishao (White Peony Root), Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root), Gancao, Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), and Rougui (Cinnamon Bark).
(From Danxi. 'Da' refers to a young sheep, implying easy growth.) Zisu (Perilla Leaf), Dafupi (Areca Peel), Renshen, Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala), Gancao, Chenpi (Tangerine Peel), Danggui, and Baishao follow. Add Congye (Scallion Stem) and Huangyangnao (Buxus Seed/Heartwood); pregnant women should take this before delivery. [Dafupi 3 qian, Zisu, Renshen, Baizhu (soil-fried), Chenpi, Danggui (wine-washed), Baishao (wine-washed) each 1 qian, roasted Gancao 3 qian, Qingcong (Green Scallion) 5 leaves, Huangyangnao 7 pieces, decocted. Danggui and Baishao nourish Blood; Renshen and Baizhu tonify Qi; Chenpi, Dafupi, Zisu, and Congye unblock stagnation. If there is neither deficiency nor stagnation, childbirth will proceed without difficulty.] If Chuanxiong is replaced by Baizhu, it forms Zisu Yinzi (Yan's Perilla Decoction), which is suitable for Zixuan (Fetal Distress with Upward Rushing Qi). (When fetal Qi is disharmonious and rushes upward to the heart and abdomen, it is called Zixuan.)
(Danxi. Zhuantong refers to insufficient Qi and Blood, or obstruction by Phlegm-Fluids, where the fetus presses against the bladder, displacing it to one side, causing acute pain below the umbilicus and either frequent urination or urinary retention.) Chuanxiong, Baishao, Danggui, and Shudihuang. Zhigancao (Honey-fried Licorice), Chenpi (with white pith retained), and Banxia (Pinellia Tuber) are used together; as Qi rises, the fetus lifts and returns to normal position. (This formula is Renshen Tang minus Fuling, adding Chenpi and Banxia to resolve Phlegm, decocted with Shengjiang.)
