In middle age, people often experience depletion of essence and decline of spirit, frequently sighing that they have lost heart in all matters. This is generally due to insufficient Heart Blood, preventing Heart Fire from descending to the Kidney; and exhausted Qi, preventing Kidney Water from ascending to the Heart. The Middle Jiao (Middle Burner) becomes blocked, and Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi are disharmonious. The suffering manifests as: above, frequent palpitations and fright; in the middle, cold-type epigastric fullness and reduced appetite; below, deficiency-cold, seminal emission, and incontinence, potentially progressing to impotence and slipping of Zang-Qi. Ignorant physicians only know how to use harsh tonics for the Lower Jiao (Lower Burner). This not only fails to generate Kidney Water to nourish the Heart but also leads to a loss of authenticity, immediate decline and emaciation, and the beginning of premature death. How tragic! I formulated this prescription to widely save those lost in confusion, yet one must not neglect the precautions regarding these medicines. With sincere devotion, after taking it for half a year, gradually discontinue all warming herbs. Furthermore, do not rely on this medicine to indulge in sexual desires. Instead, strive to practice methods of securing the essence and tracing back to the source. Its miraculous effects cannot be fully described. Swear before Heaven and Earth, and never transmit it recklessly.
The precept left by Grand Master Tongfeng, grandfather of Yu Juyi, states: "At fifty-one years old, I met Mr. Shen of Tie Weng (Iron Fortress), who taught me this secret method. I diligently practiced and maintained it. After one year of consumption, there was great tonification. All previously taken warming herbs were discontinued, yet my dietary preferences remained as vigorous as in my prime. This demonstrates the great power of the medicinal efficacy. Now at eighty-five, I enjoy a natural lifespan, closing my eyes with no regrets. I alone transmit this medicine. It is proper to show it to all beings so they may attain the fruit of the Dao. Following the prescription are Jiangqi Tang (Qi-Descending Decoction) and Ya Yao (Dental Medicine), which can be used concurrently."
Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 4 liang) Xiangfu Zi (Cyperi Rhizoma, 1 jin, remove hairs, soak in fresh water overnight, stir-fry until yellow)
Grind into powder. Make pills with refined honey, sized like quail eggs. Take one pill early in the morning, followed by chewing with Jiangqi Tang (Qi-Descending Decoction).
Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 2 liang) Xiangfu Zi (Cyperi Rhizoma, 0.5 jin, stir-fry and soak as before) Gancao (Licorice Root, 1.5 lian, stir-fry with honey until yellow)
Grind into powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with boiling water.
Xiangfu Zi (Cyperi Rhizoma, 5 liang)
Grind 3 liang of fresh ginger. Mix the pulp and juice to soak Cyperi Rhizoma for three nights. Stir-fry until charred black but retaining its medicinal nature. Grind into powder. Mix evenly with 2 qian of Qingyan (Green Salt). Use to rub the teeth.
