To treat heatstroke, characterized by dizziness, fainting, and loss of consciousness; this prescription can replace all other summerheat-resolving medicines during the hot season. (I frequently prepare this medicine during the summer for my attendants.)
Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae Preparata), 1 liang, prepared by stir-baking with honey or bran; Wumei (Fructus Mume), 1 liang, pitted and dried on a tile over low heat; Baifan (Alumen), 0.5 liang, raw and ground; Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), 1 liang, selected.
Grind the above ingredients into a fine powder, add 4 liang of white flour, and mix thoroughly. Take one large qian per dose, mixed with fresh water. If diarrhea, cholera-like symptoms, and thirst occur, one dose will bring immediate recovery. Even those who usually dare not drink cold water can take this medicine with cold water without adverse effects. (This is a formula passed down from Emperor Renzong of Song, bestowed upon his close ministers.)
Huayin Xixin (Radix Asari), Duanshi (Lapis Ferri Praeparatus).
Grind the above two ingredients in equal proportions into a powder. Apply a small amount to brush the teeth, drain the saliva, and rinse with warm water; pain stops immediately.
Badou (Semen Crotonis), quantity as needed, shelled, wrapped in flour and roasted until cooked, remove the flour, and grind together with Suli (Oryza Sativa) to form pills the size of radish seeds. Use one or two pills each time, wrap in cotton, and insert into the carious cavity. Then lie down to sleep; after a short while, when pain ceases, remove it.
For each application, use only an amount the size of a rice grain, and still cover with continuous paper.
Badou (Semen Crotonis), one large seed, outer skin removed; Douchi (Faba Fabae Preparata), seven grains; Dasuantou (Bulbus Allii Sativi), one clove, roots and thin skin removed.
Place all together and grind extremely finely into a paste, roll into a ball, and wrap in oil paper. Whenever toothache occurs, at bedtime, first rinse mouth with warm water, then gently probe the painful area with a needle, pack the medicine into it, and rinse with water the next day to achieve cure.
For teeth not yet broken by decay.
