When a male or female infant is just born, suddenly a certain syndrome appears: for males, it occurs on the 3rd, 5th, or 7th day after birth; for females, it occurs on the 2nd, 4th, or 6th day. This difference in odd and even days reflects the manifestation of Yin and Yang according to natural laws, leading to an infection by external "Ke Wu" (sudden fright/evil qi) pathogenic factors. These factors interfere with the body, causing the infant's abdomen to become tight, visible cyan veins, inability to open the mouth, and refusal to suckle. This is caused by external human-related evil qi invading, resulting in disharmony of Yin and Yang, and the stomach Qi being disturbed by normal physiological functions (Zheng Qi). (The Qi and pulse of newborns are not yet stable, and their spirit is not yet complete, so they have not been exposed to pathogenic factors. Therefore, ancient people prohibited receiving guests within the first month to avoid such disasters.) The term "evil" refers to the killing Qi invading during illicit sexual intercourse (belonging to improper and irregular matters, all categorized under evil Qi).
The writings of medical masters in ancient times were numerous and difficult to exhaust, but the most essential parts, though circulated among the secular world, lacked acupuncture and moxibustion methods (since Qi and blood are newly generated and meridians are not yet firm, using moxa cones would be a futile and harmful practice). Having suffered this misfortune, as days passed, mothers wept and fathers cried out in pain, waiting for death, sighing in sorrow. Who could save them? I studied pediatric medicine, inheriting the lineage for four generations. Due to a fire disaster that destroyed my books, after thirty years of effort, one day I encountered a highly skilled physician, deeply explored the mysteries of his methods, and received secret prescriptions and medicines through confidential transmission. Repeated use yielded successful results. Alas! Heaven and Earth give birth to all things, but humans are the most noble. Humans can observe and reflect upon Heaven and Earth, yet how could Heaven and Earth intentionally harm humans? Thus, the matter depends on whether one encounters a qualified physician. Cases involving slight emotional distress, regret, resentment, or attachment to worldly affairs are common. I therefore practiced small-scale benevolence to universally relieve suffering. For newborns, I personally selected materials facing the Shencong point (GV19) and carefully prepared the remedies. For infants from families of any status who suffered this affliction, regardless of severity or time, I administered good medicinal preparations, ensuring preservation of life and sudden revival. Is this not a significant benefit?
Upper Ge Distension (Distension at the Upper Diaphragm), Middle Huan Distension (Distension at the Middle Abdomen), Food Injury Distension and Bloating.
Discussion: Ge (diaphragm) and Huan (middle abdomen) are connected vertically, while Peng (bloating/distension) and Zhang (swelling/fullness) differ in severity. Prolonged disease in the Wan (epigastric region) leads to stuffiness and oppression; stagnation of pathogenic factors in the Ge leads to depression and accumulation. "Ge" hides in the chest hall, located above the Wan, acting like a barrier; "Wan" acts like a tube, becoming smooth when patent. Both conditions arise from food injury, retention of old cold, improper sleeping postures lasting too long, causing Qi stagnation in the San Jiao (Triple Burner), weak constitution, and deficient pulse. Pathogens transmit to the Five Zang Organs. This is described as the Spleen failing to grind and digest food, and the Stomach failing to open and accept food, rendering food unbeneficial, thus leading to distension. If, during the stage of distension, one does not employ methods to resolve stagnation and promote drainage, it will eventually lead to deficiency-type fullness. If, during deficiency fullness, one does not employ methods to regulate Qi and tonify, the Qi will attack the Zhong Wan (Middle Epigastrium). If the Zhong Huan fails to transform, the pathogen will invade the Upper Ge. Once the disease is in the Upper Ge, physical symptoms must appear, and transmission will worsen the condition; physicians must not treat this lightly. To achieve cure: for distension caused by food injury, administer San Leng Jian Wan (San Leng Decoction Pill); for Zhong Wan stuffiness and bloating, administer Wang Shi Ta Qi Wan (Master Wang's Settling Qi Pill); for Upper Ge depression and distension, administer Da Zhu Lian Wan (Large Zhebeii and Coptis Pill).
