Indicated for acute and chronic convulsions (Ji Man Er Jing), phlegm-wind obstructing upwards, spasms of the limbs, deviation of the mouth and eyes, restlessness and irritability, and mental dullness. Regular use calms the heart, subdues fright, disperses wind, and regulates qi.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, radix removed, 3 qian) Gan Cao (Licorice Root, half raw, half honey-fried) Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood, bark and woody root removed) Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, silk threads removed) Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, processed as previously described, each of the above four herbs 5 qian) Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma) Nan Xing (Arisaema Cum Bile, processed as previously described) Bai Fu Ling (Poria, peel removed) Peng Sha (Borax) Ya Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) Zhu Sha (Cinnabaris, water-triturated, each of the above six herbs 2.5 qian) Quan Xie (Scorpio, tail retained, toxicity removed) She Xiang (Moschus, one zi weight)
Except for Ya Xiao, Peng Sha, She Xiang, and Zhu Sha, the remaining nine herbs are baked and ground into powder. The four excluded herbs are finely ground in a mortar. Mix the baked powder with these four fine powders uniformly. Use a thin paste made from glutinous rice boiled in water as a binder to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. While still moist, coat them with Yin Zhu (Vermilion). Each dose consists of 3 to 5 or 7 pills. For acute convulsions, grind the pills in warm tea and administer. For chronic convulsions, dissolve the pills in decoction of Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and Shu Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) and take warm; alternatively, administer with Bo He Tang (Menthae Haplocalycis Decoction) or Mai Men Dong Tang (Ophiopogonis Decoction).
Indicated for various accumulations complicated by wind. It warms the stomach, regulates the spleen, promotes digestion, and treats regurgitation with sour and rancid odor, sallow complexion, and emaciation. It is suitable for children regardless of their age since birth.
Wu Xi Zao Jia (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus cum Spina, crushed, 3 cun length, roasted in ash fire until clear smoke rises, taken out and covered with a clay bowl on the ground to preserve its nature, used when cool, 7 qian) Liu Huang (Sulfur) Bai Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma, two herbs 3.5 qian each) Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, white pith removed) Chuan Wu (Aconiti Radix, processed, peel and navel removed, two herbs 5 qian each) Ba Dou (Crotonis Fructus, 77 seeds, shell and membrane removed, center oil retained)
First, grind Liu Huang alone in a mortar until fine. Except for Ba Dou, bake the remaining four herbs and grind them into powder. Slice Ba Dou thinly and pound it extremely fine in a mortar. Then mix it thoroughly with the powders of the previous five herbs. Wrap this mixture in cooked Japonica rice (Oryza Sativa Var. Glutinosa) to form a large zongzi shape. Place it in a small clay bottle with water and boil until cooked. Take it out after cooling. Pound it thoroughly in a sand mortar, wrap tightly in fine cloth, and squeeze out a thick paste-like liquid. Store this liquid in another container. Divide the herb powder equally and mix with the liquid, pounding until soft. Form pills the size of millet grains. For treating various accumulations, each dose is 15, 21, or up to 33 pills. Administer at dawn on an empty stomach with juice extracted from cold rice soaked in Dan Jiang Tang (Light Ginger Decoction). After 3-5 bowel movements, stop this formula and use Yun Qi San (Harmonizing Qi Powder) to regulate qi. To treat vomiting due to accumulation with sour/rancid odor, each dose is 3 to 5 pills, administered on an empty stomach with warm Dan Jiang Tang mixed with a little Mi Cu (Oryza Sativa Acetum).
