Remaining Discussion:
For carbuncles and sores not yet broken, if toxin attacks the zang-fu organs, no heat-inducing drugs should be used. Once ulcerated, the zang-fu are depleted and appetite decreases; no cold-inducing drugs should be used. This is a key principle. Vomiting at onset indicates toxin qi attacking upward; vomiting after ulceration indicates yin deficiency. He Jian believed vomiting was due to dampness invading the stomach, suggesting doubling Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma). However, Bai Zhu promotes pus formation; when pus is not yet expelled, Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) should be used. The first three prescriptions are family secrets; the next seven are essential surgical formulas; followed by dividing toxins and sores into two sections, ordered upper to lower for reference; then general formulas to help people; the last five were obtained from Shi Ji'an, truly surgical secrets; finally appended are Mei Yang (Syphilis) condensation toxins and fish-mouth chancre, covering most of surgery. Divine understanding depends on the practitioner. (Recorded by Ban Mei)
Appendix: Mei Yang Condensation Toxin, bone/tendon pain, and Mei Yang Feng (Syphilitic Rigidity) Divine Prescription.
Mei Yang (Syphilis) sore is neither purely internal nor external cause, but what is called "neither internal nor external." Essence circulates through bones and joints, reaching Ni Wan Palace above and Wei Lu/Qiao Yi below, like a reed pipe. During intercourse, desire fire opens Qiao Yi, essence leaks out. If the partner is unclean, internal toxin qi enters the open pore, evil qi shoots into Qiao Yi, closing toxin travels up to Ni Wan, descends, disrupts connection, enters five zang organs, scatters throughout the body, and sores appear. Treatment must first support healthy qi, then attack pathogenic factors. When toxin is exhausted, sores heal themselves. Patients rush for quick results; doctors seek profit for near-term success. Overuse of Xiao, Huang, Ba, Chou purges damages yuan qi; using Pearl Powder or Mercury leaves toxin in tendons/bones; using Green Apricot Frost closes toxin doors. Various harsh drugs cannot be enumerated. Weak patients suffer this destruction and may die. Even if not, prolonged illness leads to condensation toxins: pain in tendons, pain in bones, baldness/nasal collapse above, throat ulcers/tooth decay in middle, foot rot below. Toxin may affect pregnancy, harming children. Symptoms include numbness, limb spasms, opisthotonos, filth, and crying. Medicine is a benevolent art. Ancients used kingly ways to save lives; moderns use harsh methods to harm the world. Must be cautious!
