Women suffer from leukorrhea (vaginal discharge) most frequently, which is formed by the stagnation of Ying and Wei (nutritive and defensive) qi. In summary, it is nothing more than Spleen deficiency combined with Damp-Heat, causing turbid Qi to seep into the Bladder and flow down as leukorrhea. In mild cases, it comes and goes intermittently, requiring no treatment. In severe cases, it flows without restraint, causing soreness and pain in the waist and knees, and a shortage of spirit and energy, necessitating treatment. Discussing them separately: red leukorrhea belongs to Heat, being a deficiency pattern combined with Fire; white leukorrhea belongs to Dampness, being a deficiency pattern combined with Phlegm-Damp. Red and white mixed discharge indicates Spleen deficiency with Dampness. The treatment method generally focuses on tonifying the Spleen, while also incorporating lifting procedures. However, generally speaking, thin people tend to have excessive Fire and suffer from red leukorrhea; fat people tend to have Phlegm-Damp and suffer from white leukorrhea. For mixed red and white discharge, using Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Extraordinary Efficacy Powder) added with Faba Bean (Bian Dou), Coix Seed (Yi Yi Ren), Chinese Yam (Shan Yao), and Alisma (Ze Xie) will invariably lead to recovery. If mixed with five-colored discharge, add one or two herbs corresponding to the affected Zang organ to the base formula. If there is Heat, add Phellodendron Bark (Huang Bo) and Lotus Plumule (Lian Xin). For prolonged, unceasing leukorrhea, the treatment should focus on tonification, and Buzhong Yiqi Wan (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Pill) is suitable.
Wuwei Yigong San (Five-Ingredient Extraordinary Efficacy Powder)
Treats intermittent red and white leukorrhea.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, 3 qian), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 qian), Fu Ling (Poria, 2 qian), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, 1 qian), Zhi Gan Cao (Prepared Licorice Root, 0.5 qian).
Decoct and take orally. Green color corresponds to the Liver; add Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix) and Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus) to Wuwei Yigong San. Yellow corresponds to the Spleen; add Shi Hu (Dendrobii Caulis), He Ye (Nelumbinis Folium), and Chen Mi (Old Rice). Red corresponds to the Heart; add Dan Shen (Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) and Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix). White corresponds to the Lungs; add Yi Yi Ren (Coicis Semen) and Zhu Ling (Polyporus). Black corresponds to the Kidneys; add Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex) and Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix).
Generally, women’s dispositions are often biased and stubborn. To seek longevity, one must first戒 (abstain from) impatience. If anger arises, or due to depression, Qi stagnation occurs. Anger damages Liver Blood; when Blood is deficient and Qi is hyperactive, conception becomes impossible, leading initially to amenorrhea and subsequently transforming into Lao Zhai (consumptive disease). To remain healthy, menstruation must be regulated, occurring once a month in accordance with Heaven, like water responding to Earth, coming monthly like the tide at its appointed time. If irregular, inquire about the cause: early arrival is due to Heat, late arrival is due to Cold. Heat requires cooling, Cold requires warming. Hot blood requires clearing, deficient blood requires tonifying. Once pregnant, first protect the fetus. If prenatal care (Tai Jiao) is observed, there will be no subsequent disaster. Ignoring conservation leads to regret. When full-term, endure labor pains; this is excellent. As the melon ripens, it falls naturally. Avoid inducing delivery too early. If birth is slightly slow, it is because the time has not yet arrived. Ignorant women and foolish old midwives, forcing delivery out of season, cause transverse presentation, resulting in dystocia. The disaster is self-inflicted. If transverse presentation occurs immediately, do not panic or disturb further. Calm the mind and nourish the spirit; medicinal assistance can bring improvement. Panic causes Blood to rebel, which is even worse. Even if the fetus dies in utero and lies transversely, eat with peace of mind; rescue is still possible. After three or four days, medicines can still dissolve it. The foul odor is harmless. The fetus transforms into water; when the water exits, the fetus shrinks. With strong Qi, the cervical os opens, and it falls out naturally. It does not damage the interior. The saying that "cadaverous Qi bursts the heart" is wrong. This statement alone has caused many wrongful deaths. Strictly warn midwives against using brute force to extract, losing their conscience, and even using knives. Extraction damages organs, causing unbearable pain. I often see those extracted by brute force, with death tolls incalculable. They hold grievances in the underworld, how tragic! After new childbirth, medical methods have room for maneuver: first remove lochia (E Lu), then tonify deficiency. Tonifying deficiency too early prevents the expulsion of turbidity. If Qi collapses, it is a severe deficiency. At this point, administer warm tonics to revive life. Those who cherish life should follow this song. Teach girls to read these verses thoroughly. Let women listen to them regularly beforehand to avoid panic and regret during labor. Pass it on to save countless lives. These vernacular words offer some small benefit.
