Jiaoren Wan (Pepper Kernel Pill): Treats conditions where amenorrhea occurs first, followed by edema of the four limbs and obstruction of urination. This is caused by blood transforming into water, named "Blood Division" (Xuefen). (Since blood has transformed into water, treatment should prioritize promoting diuresis; however, herbs that promote blood circulation, warm blood, resolve stagnation, and break qi accumulation are indispensable. Yet, only harsh and potent drugs can suffice, hence toxic medicines are added as assistants.)
Ingredients: Jiaoren (Pepper Kernel), Xuisui Zi (Euphorbiae Lathyridis Semen, peeled and ground), Gansui (Kansui Root), Fuzi (Prepared Aconite Caralis Lateralis Radix), Yuliren (Prunus Armeniacae Semen Amarum), Hei Qianniu (Black Pharbitis Seed), Wulingzhi (Trogopteri Dung), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Wu Zhuyu (Evodiae Fructus), Yanhusuo (Corydalis Rhizoma) (each 5 qian), Yuanhua (Genkwa Flos, soaked in vinegar), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum) (each 2 qian), Danfan (Alumen), Xinpi (Realgar mixed with Arsenic Trioxide) (each 1 qian), Yuanqing (Mylabris, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, remove head, wings, and feet), Banmao (Mylabris, stir-fried with glutinous rice until yellow, each 10 pieces).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with wheat paste to form pills the size of pea seeds. Take one pill per dose, washed down with Tangerine Peel Decoction (Chenpi Tang). Although the drugs in this formula are harsh and potent, the dosage is small. If one hesitates due to fear and does not take it, there is a risk of nurturing disease and harming the body. Even when commonly treating weak individuals, no errors have been observed. (This must be a formula verified to be effective; reading it instills courage.)
Tingli Wan (Descurainiae Semen Pill): Treats conditions where difficulty in urination occurs first, followed by edema of the face, body, and limbs, and obstruction of menstruation. This is caused by water transforming into blood, named "Water Division" (Shuifen).
Ingredients: Tian Tingli (Descurainiae Semen, fried, ground separately), Xuisui Zi (Euphorbiae Lathyridis Semen, shelled and ground separately, each 5 qian), Gan Sun Mo (Dried Bamboo Shoot Powder) (1 liang).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with jujube flesh to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take seven pills per dose, washed down with decoction of Bianzhu (Bamboo leaves/stems). If bowel movements are free, reduce Xuisui Zi and Tingli by 1 qian each, and add Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 5 qian. (Since it is primarily a water disease, diuresis is prioritized first; adding Baizhu assists the Spleen Earth to control water overflow.)
Renshen Wan (Ginseng Pill, also known as Tingli Wan): Treats irregular menstruation where blood transforms into water, flowing to the four limbs, causing generalized swelling and fullness, named "Blood Division". The symptoms resemble those of water diseases; treating it as a water disease is incorrect. This formula is appropriate.
Ingredients: Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, wrapped in wet paper and steamed over rice, sliced and stir-fried), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex), Qumai Sui (Polygoni Avicularis Herba), Chishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Baifuling (Poria) (each half liang), Tingli (Descurainiae Semen, fried, ground separately, 1 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder, mix with refined honey to form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take 15 to 30 pills per dose, washed down with rice drink on an empty stomach.
Xiao Tiaojing San (Minor Regulation of Menstruation Powder): Treats stagnant and decomposed blood accumulating in the five zang organs for a long time, rotting into water and causing edema. Diuretic drugs should be avoided (this formula focuses on regulating stagnant blood, hence diuretics are forbidden; regulating the menses will cause the edema to subside naturally). It is also suitable for postpartum edema.
Ingredients: Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chishao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), Guixin (Cinnamomi Cortex) (each 1 liang), Moyao (Myrrha), Hupo (Succinum), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (each 1 qian), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Shexiang (Moschus) (each 5 fen).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take 5 fen per dose, mixed with warm wine and ginger juice.
Sangbaipi San (Mulberry Bark Powder): Treats Hongjiaojiao (Foot Qi/Jock itch syndrome) attack causing bilateral foot edema, red and scanty urine, abdominal and hypochondriac distension, and shortness of breath preventing sitting or lying down. (This is a borrowed formula from the treatment of Foot Qi.)
Ingredients: Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex, fried, 1 qian), Yuliren (Prunus Armeniacae Semen Amarum, fried, 1 qian), Chifuling (Red Poria, 2 qian), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix, washed with wine), Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium) (each 5 qian), Suzi (Perillae Fructus, fried), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Binglang (Areca Seed), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride) (each 7.5 fen).
Cut the above ingredients into one dose, add three slices of fresh ginger, decoct with water, and take orally.
Zhengwan San (Upright Epigastrium Powder): Treats deficiency-type epigastric fullness and obstruction, qi pain in both hypochondria, edema of the face, eyes, hands, and feet, and constipation with dry stools. Also treats Hongjiaojiao. (Suitable for Spleen deficiency failing to control water and descending qi failure.)
Ingredients: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Binglang (Areca Seed), Gancao (Licorice Radix et Rhizoma) (each 7.5 qian), Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), Zisu (Perillae Folium), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum), Duohuo (Angelicae Pubescentis Radix) (each 1 liang).
Cut the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose, decoct with water, and take after meals.
Da Tiaojing San (Major Regulation of Menstruation Powder): Treats disharmony of Ying and Wei, mutual invasion of Yin and Yang, aversion to cold with fever, spontaneous sweating, and edema/fullness. (This employs the methods of "opening the ghost gate" [diaphoresis] and "cleansing the bladder" [diuresis], acting on the Qi level rather than blood disharmony. Aversion to cold and spontaneous sweating indicate pathogenic factors at the exterior.)
Ingredients: Dadou (Soybean, fried and skin removed, 1.5 liang), Fuling (Poria, 1 liang), Zhen Hupo (Authentic Succinum, 1 qian).
Grind the above ingredients into fine powder. Take 1 qian per dose, washed down with strong decoction of black soybeans and Perilla Folium.
Dafupi Yin (Arecae Pericarpium Decoction): Treats "Xueying" (Blood Infant) in women, characterized by isolated abdominal swelling.
Ingredients: Dafupi (Arecae Pericarpium), Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix), Mutong (Akebiae Caulis), Houpo (Magnoliae Officinalis Cortex), Gualou (Trichosanthis Fructus), Huangqi (Astragali Radix), Zhike (Citri Aurantii Fructus), Sangbaipi (Mori Cortex), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) (equal parts).
Cut the above ingredients. Take 1 liang per dose, decoct with water, strain, and take with a small amount of wine. (The term "Xueying" is new, referring to isolated abdominal distension resembling holding an infant tumor. However, all ingredients are qi-moving drugs; Huangqi, Wuweizi, and Dahuang can also tonify qi and move blood.)
Dahuang Gansui Tang (Rhubarb and Kansui Decoction): Treats women with lower abdominal fullness hard like a Dun (ancient vessel), with slight but continuous urination. In postpartum cases, this is due to water and blood binding together in the Blood Chamber.
Ingredients: Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, half liang), Gansui (Kansui Root, prepared - Gansui is a harsh drug, caution against excessive dosage), Ejiao (Donkey-hide Gelatin, fried, each 1 liang).
Cut the above ingredients. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct with one cup of water until reduced to 0.7 cups. The blood stasis should then pass downwards.
