── Congben, Middle Volume
Xianglingcao grows in fields. It has soft branches and green leaves. Under the leaves is a large fruit resembling a bean pod, containing fine seeds that turn dark black when mature.
Its aroma is pungent, sour, and bitter.
It primarily treats internal accumulation of stone lin (urinary calculi). It also stops coughing and expectoration, calms asthma, and directs rebellious Qi downward, with miraculous effects. Mashed and applied externally to sores, it is excellent.

Kushen (Sophorae Flavescentis Radix), with a bitter taste, is greatly cold in nature. It cools blood, resolves heat toxicity, and is best for treating jielai (scabies/leprosy-like conditions) and pus-filled sore toxins. It treats skin pruritus,
xuefeng xuanchuang (blood-wind tinea crustosa), stubborn diseases with white scales, and changfeng (wind in intestines) hematochezia. It dispels wind, reduces swelling toxins, and eliminates phlegm toxins.
(Additional Note) Kushen Wan: Treats jielai sore toxins, xuefeng xuanchuang, rheumatism and wind-dampness intermingling, generalized pruritus, and changfeng hematochezia.
