Liu (Willow), bitter in taste, cold in nature. It treats all types of five Lin syndromes (dysuria with various characteristics), Bai Zhuo (white turbid discharge), Xue Lin (hematuria), and Sha Lin (gravelly urine). It is highly effective for both the elderly and children.

Shui Yang Liu (Water Willow), bitter and pungent in aroma and taste. It mainly treats blood stasis and Qi stagnation, as well as external constraint by wind-cold. For pediatric smallpox cases where the pustule head sinks inward and the pus fails to rise, taking this herb allows warm Qi to penetrate and reach the surface, enabling the pus to follow the warmth and emerge. Boiling it for oral administration or using it for bathing promotes rapid healing. This is a miraculous prescription for treating pediatric diseases.

Shun Shui Liu Gen (Root of Willows Growing Along the Water Stream), sweet in taste, cold in nature, non-toxic.
It mainly treats all types of five Lin syndromes, Bai Zhuo (white turbid discharge), and lower intestinal bleeding, with effects as miraculous as divine intervention.
Yang Liu Hua (Willow Catkins), sweet, bitter, and bland in taste, neutral in nature.
It specifically treats hematemesis (vomiting blood), spitting blood, coughing blood, salivating blood, lower body bleeding, Xue Lin (hematuria), and all types of blood disorders, with effects as miraculous as divine intervention.

Li Zi (Chestnut), sweet in taste, neutral in nature. It treats malaria caused by mountain miasma and pestilential qi, unremitting watery diarrhea, or red and white dysentery. Roast it into powder. Take each dose of three qian (approx. 9-15g), washed down with ginger decoction. Eating it raw causes Qi stagnation in the chest.
The leaves treat fire-toxin in throat carbuncles; boil and take orally, with miraculous effects. The skin is applied externally to bruises from blows; burnt to ash, it treats leprosy-like sores.
The thorns on the husk are burnt to ash and blown into the nose to treat aphasia due to wind-stroke; blowing it in restores consciousness immediately. If one has inhaled phlegm-pathogen, blowing it in also yields immediate results.
──Wuben Volume 1 Lower
Li Zi Hua (Chestnut Flower), bitter and astringent in taste, slightly warm in nature. It stops chronic leukorrhea (red and white discharge), relapsing dysentery, and lower intestinal bleeding. Li Zi (Chestnut), sweet in taste, warm in nature. Eating it raw stops hematemesis (vomiting blood), epistaxis (nosebleed), melena/hematochezia (blood in stool), and all types of blood disorders.
──Congben Volume Middle
Li Zi (Chestnut), sweet and salty in taste, warm in nature, non-toxic.
It mainly tonifies the middle Jiao and supplements Qi, thickens the stomach and intestines, tonifies Kidney Qi, and treats weakness in the waist and legs. Raw chestnuts promote Qi movement, while cooked ones may cause Qi stagnation. They must be sun-dried or baked in ashes until moisture sweats out, or stored in moist sand, or placed in bags and hung in the wind, all to remove their water vapor. This is the best method.
This fruit is most beneficial to humans; the flat ones among them are called Li Xi (Chestnut Wedge) and are especially good. Those suffering from wind-diseases and edema should not eat them. Children eating too many may suffer from indigestion and illness.
Chewing them raw and applying the paste to broken bones, tendons, swelling, pain, and blood stasis is most effective. It also treats retrograde vomiting and human bites; crushing and applying externally is the best method.
