Tu Yu Gua (also known as Long Dan Cao, Dragon Egg Grass; note: this is not the true Long Dan Cao, which was described in previous sections). It grows in mountainous areas with water sources. Its leaves resemble those of Cirsium setosum (Xiao Ji), and its roots are large and fleshy. The taste is sweet and pleasant. When pounded together with Poria (Fuling) to make pills, it treats edema, Qi swelling, blood swelling, and isolated abdominal distension; taking this medicine causes these conditions to subside. Long-term use promotes longevity. Fresh leaves applied externally are highly effective for treating carbuncles, back sores, and ding toxic infections. Even for condyloma lata (syphilitic sores), seven doses yield miraculous results. Avoid triggering foods and raw/cold items.
(Distinguish from the inverted Tu Yu Gua; pairing with Poria as a guiding herb yields the best results.)

Tu Yu Gua (Inverted Tu Yu Gua) grows hanging upside down on mountain cliffs, with green leaves and yellow flowers. It blooms one flower per year, producing one fruit cluster. The stems and vines are cotton-soft. After twelve years, the root resembles a human figure. The taste is sweet. Non-toxic. Harvested and boiled with Yun Ling (Poria) into an ointment/paste, it darkens hair and promotes longevity.

Tu Lian Zi grows in mountains. Its leaves resemble those of Di Cao Guo, with a large seed forming within the leaf. Inside the seed is black fluid that dyes beard and hair black upon application. The taste is sweet, nature is cold. Non-toxic. It primarily treats various dampness-induced phlegm accumulation, wind-related leprosy-like conditions, limb sores/toxins, severe pediatric ulcers, and fetal toxins. Take the seeds, burn them to ash while preserving their medicinal properties, and administer with wine. It treats seventy-two types of madness caused by phlegm. For patients exhibiting manic, frenzied behavior who strike others, administration leads to immediate recovery.
The root eliminates food stagnation and resolves epigastric fullness/blockages. Leaves applied externally treat sores, carbuncles, abscesses, and back sores with divine efficacy.
A dosage of one fen of this herb treats infant umbilical convulsions (with puckered lips), convulsive disorders with vomiting and diarrhea.

The taste is bitter, nature is slightly cold. Non-toxic. Harvested and applied externally, it treats all types of ding sores, severe toxic carbuncles/back sores, and unnameable swellings/toxins with miraculous efficacy.
