Loquat leaf (Pipa Ye), bitter and pungent in taste, cold in nature. Enters the Lung meridian, stops cough, relieves dyspnea, and resolves phlegm. For chronic cough where the throat sounds like a saw being pulled; stubborn phlegm is knotted in the lungs, and phlegm threads rise and fall with wind-qi, thus producing wheezing and asthmatic sounds. Loquat leaf enters the Lung, capable of severing stubborn phlegm threads, dissipating wheezing, and relieving dyspnea.
The fruit is effective for asthma and pediatric convulsions with fever.

Hua Hong Guo, sweet and sour in taste, neutral and cold in nature. Its therapeutic action travels through the Foot Yangming and Jueyin meridians. Treats liver qi stagnation and spleen deficiency causing distension in women. Raw consumption causes phlegm generation and vomiting of acidic yellow sputum. Children should not eat too much.
Decocting and drinking the leaves is most effective for treating all types of blindness (Qingmang) or corneal opacity due to fire-eye (Huoyan Moyi).
Soaking in rice wine and consuming treats weak legs. After age thirty, eating it together with apple can lighten the body. For bone and tendon pain, soak in wine and boil, drinking three cups daily is good. Avoid eating with fishy-smelling foods.

Apple (Pingguo), also known as Chaofanzi, Tianranzi, or Yurongdan. Sweet and fragrant in taste, generates fluids when eaten, promotes longevity and lightens the body with long-term use, darkens hair. Unblocks the five zang and six fu organs, travels through the twelve meridians. Harmonizes Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive Qi) and connects with Shen (Spirit), resolves plague and stops alternating chills and fever. Applying collected leaves to the umbilicus treats Yin syndromes. Also treats postpartum blood confusion, irregular menstruation, steaming fever, with miraculous efficacy upon consumption.

Apple, sweet and slightly sour in taste, non-toxic. Treats spleen deficiency with excessive fire, tonifies the middle and supplements qi. Consumed with wine and food, it treats bone and tendon pain; brewed with honey, it is a product for long-term consumption to promote longevity. Children should not eat too much, as excessive consumption induces infantile malnutrition (Ganji). Rubbing on red swelling of sores can dissipate it. Burning to ash while retaining its nature treats toxins from water, and can awaken the spleen and clear the spirit, bringing comfort to people. Applying collected leaves to fire-toxin sores or scalds/burns, mixing ash with oil for application, is the best method. The peel treats regurgitation and vomiting of phlegm.
