Baiyaizi (Dioscorea bulbifera Rhizome), with a slightly bitter taste and neutral nature. It enters the Spleen, Lung, and Kidney meridians. Its main indications include tonifying the middle and replenishing Qi, astringing Lung Qi, promoting sexual function (Xing Yang Dao), treating impotence, stopping coughs due to consumptive diseases, and effectively treating chronic coughs caused by prolonged wind-cold invasion. It is also used to treat leukorrhea in women.
Formula: Baiyaizi (3 qian), Aiye (Artemisia argyi Leaf, 2 qian), Xiangfu (Cyperi Rhizoma, 1 qian), Fulonggan (Dragon's Liver Earth, 2 qian), Mianhuazi (Gossypii Semen, 3 qian), Qianshi (Euryales Semen, 1 qian, stir-fried with vinegar), Baiguo (Ginkgo Seed, 5 pieces). Decoct and take orally.

Zongzi (Areca catechu Fruit or similar palm fruit), with a bitter and astringent taste and neutral nature, warm in property. Its main indications include treating leukorrhea in women, pain in tendons and bones, hemiplegia, five types of stranguria, and turbid urine; it is most effective when taken.

Xianmao (Curculiginis Rhizoma), with a pungent and slightly salty taste and warm nature. It enters the Kidney and Liver meridians. It treats urinary incontinence in the elderly, tonifies the Kidney, promotes sexual function, and warms the waist and knees; it also treats red metrorrhagia in women, attacks carbuncles and sores, and drains pus.
(Attached formula) For treating red metrorrhagia in women that has persisted for a long time, forming a leakage syndrome.
Formula: Xianmao (3 qian, ground into powder), Quan Danggui (Angelica sinensis Root, whole), Sheguocao (Herba Siegesbeckiae or similar), each in equal parts. Decoct the latter two herbs, and take the Xianmao powder with the decoction mixed with wine.
(Annotation) When metrorrhagia persists for a long time, the Ren and Du meridians are depleted, Spleen Qi is deficient leading to sinking of Middle Qi, and Kidney Qi is deficient failing to consolidate blood. This is like a damaged vase holding water, which inevitably leaks; hence the term "leakage syndrome." In this formula, Danggui nourishes Yin and Blood, Xianmao tonifies the Ren and Du meridians and strengthens sexual function, thereby sufficientizing Kidney Qi and eliminating leakage, while Sheguocao is used for its descending action to astringe blood.
Xianmao, in any amount (including roots and rootlets), can be decocted in water with wine added, or fresh material can be crushed and applied externally. If there is pus, it will ulcerate/drain; if no pus, it will dissipate.
