Jingjie Sui (Schizonepeta Spike), with a pungent and bitter taste, is slightly warm in nature. It clears wind pathogens from the head and eyes, relieves headache, and brightens vision. It resolves heat pain in the lungs, liver, and throat, reduces swelling, eliminates various toxins, and disperses sores and carbuncles. It treats hematochezia (blood in stool), stops sudden severe metrorrhagia (sudden heavy uterine bleeding) in women, dissipates wind-heat, unblocks lung qi, and relieves nasal congestion.
Formula: Jingjie Sui (1 qian), Baijuhua (White Chrysanthemum Flower, 1.5 qian), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum Rhizome, 1 qian), Zhiren (Gardeniae Semen, fried, 2 qian). Decoct with Dengxincao (Vetiver Root) as a guide and take orally.
(Another Jingjie Decoction) Treats redness and swelling of the throat, pain of Ru'e (tonsillitis/parotitis), difficulty swallowing, fever, expectoration of phlegm-saliva, and headache.
In the past, a person suffered from Shanghan syndrome (Cold Damage syndrome), presenting with headache, fever, sore and swollen throat, inability to eat or drink, and expectoration of phlegm-saliva. The tongue coating was thick and yellow. Treatment with exterior-releasing and diaphoretic herbs was ineffective. On the fifteenth or sixteenth day, this formula cured him.
After one dose, throat pain decreased by half; after the second dose, Heidou (Black Soybean) was removed, and Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus) and Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructus) were added; after the third dose, he was completely cured.
Qing Niuxi (Achyranthes Bidentata Root), also known as Zihuacao, Banbianlian, Banduolian, Banzhilian, Banzhihua, and Yizhilian. With a pungent and sour taste, it is slightly cold in nature. It unblocks meridians, dispels wind-heat, and cools blood heat. It treats scabies, leprosy-like pustular sores, blood-wind pruritic sores, Naolou (chronic rhinitis with purulent discharge), Biyuan (sinusitis), foul-smelling nasal discharge, promotes urination, and treats Wulin (five types of strangury) and Baizhuo (leukorrhea).
Qing Niuxi, any amount, preferably fresh, is crushed to extract juice, taken mixed with wine, or decocted in water and taken mixed with wine.
(Another Formula) Treats Naolou with dizziness and headache, Biyuan with turbid nasal discharge, yellow watery mucus that is foul-smelling and unbearable, or nasal obstruction with loss of smell.
Qing Niuxi (5 qian), Larougu (Cured Meat Bone, roasted to remove oil, 1 qian; Ham bone is better), Xixudou (Fine Black Soybean, 20 grains, roasted). Decoct in water and take mixed with Shuijiu (watered wine).
Cigu (Colocasia Esculenta Tuber), with a sweet and slightly bitter taste, is warm in nature. It primarily treats accumulation of thick fluids in the intestines and stomach, stops coughing, and addresses blood in sputum, hemoptysis, or hematemesis.
(Single Herb Formula) Treats hemoptysis due to Lung deficiency.
Raw Cigu (several tubers, peeled and mashed), Fengmi (Honey, 2 qian). Mix evenly with Mitangmo (rice soup foam), steam over rice until cooked. Take hot for best effect.
