"Pear" implies "benefit" or "flow". Its nature is descending and promoting free flow. Sliced and applied to burns and scalds, it works like a miracle. It can also treat aphasia due to wind stroke, cold and heat syndromes, obstruction of urination and defecation, epigastric fullness masses, food stagnation, cholera-like vomiting and diarrhea, pediatric hernia (pian zhui), stopping pain immediately. However, due to its sweet taste, it should not be consumed in excess. Drinking its juice calms wheezing and stops coughing. Qing Li treats lumbar pain due to consumptive injury. Leaves are applied externally for sores. Peel is applied externally for back carbuncles and ding sores.
