Shao Yin Jun Huo (Ministerial Fire ruling the Heaven) governs the upper heaven, Yang Ming Zao Jin (Dryness Metal governing the Earth) governs the lower earth. In both South Polarity and North Polarity patterns, the Cun (inch) and Chi (cubit) pulses on both sides are non-responsive (weak or imperceptible).
In Jia Zi and Jia Wu years: Excessive damp-wetness causes disease, manifesting as chest fullness and heaviness of the body.
In Bing Zi (Year Hui) and Bing Wu years: Water transport is excessive. Diseases involve cold in the lower jiao, such as cold diarrhea in the abdomen; epidemic qi is cold and clear, injuring the Heart and Kidney.
In Wu Zi (Tian Fu) and Wu Wu years: Tai Yi Tian Fu year. Tai Yang Han Shui (Cold Water) is extremely vigorous. Upper part diseases involve hot blood overflowing (e.g., hematemesis, epistaxis).
In Geng Zi and Geng Wu years: Both correspond to Tian Fu. Metal Qi harmonizes with Fire transformation. Restricted by the Heaven-ruling Qi, Metal Qi achieves balance. This is the "Jian Cheng" (Firm Completion) cycle. The upper manifestations resemble normal Shang (Metal) pitch. Diseases involve lower clarity/cold, clear and loose stools, and coldness of the lower body; these are diseases of Metal Qi.
In Ren Zi and Ren Wu years: Liver Wood becomes excessively dry. Disease manifests as distension and fullness of the limbs.
Metal and Fire possess combined virtue, corresponding above to Ying Huo (Mars) and Bai Gu (Venus). Cold and Heat contend at the Qi intersection causing disease. Heat diseases arise in the upper part; cold/dry diseases arise in the lower part. Cold and Heat invade and contend in the middle. Symptoms include cough, wheezing, blood overflow, diarrhea, nasal congestion and sneezing, red eyes, back sores, cold reversal entering the Stomach, heart pain, lower back pain, abdominal distension, dry throat, and edema spreading upward.
First Qi: Host Qi is Wind-Wood; Guest Qi is Cold-Water. Cold Qi fluctuates, causing joint stiffness and fixation, lumbar spine pain, and internal/external sores. This reflects the Heaven-ruling Qi.
Second Qi: Host Qi is Jun Huo (Ministerial Fire); Guest Qi is Wind-Wood. Water Qi begins to move, Wind-Wood prospers and moves. Heat stagnates in the upper part, causing head and eye diseases, often accompanied by strangury. This is a Jun Huo disease.
Third Qi: Host Qi is Xiang Huo (Ministerial Fire); Guest Qi is Jun Huo. Extreme heat generates cold. Qi reversal causes heart pain. Cold and heat alternate. Cough, wheezing, and red eyes occur. Blazing fire causes disaster.
Fourth Qi: Both Host and Guest Qi are Wet-Earth. Muggy heat steams, cold and heat arrive immediately due to rain. Symptoms include dry throat, yellow jaundice, nasal congestion and bleeding, and fluid retention swelling. This is a damp-heat disease.
Fifth Qi: Host Qi is Dry-Metal; Guest Qi is Xiang Huo. Feared Fire (Xiang Huo) descends upon Metal. Yang Qi spreads and transforms. Periodic cold and heat occur. Severe cases develop warm epidemics. When Yang harmony prevails, bitter dispersants should be used.
Final Qi: Host Qi is Cold-Water; Guest Qi is Dry-Metal. Dry command acts. Residual fire is internally blocked. Swelling occurs in the upper part. Cough and wheezing occur. In severe cases, blood overflows from skin and pores. Disease resides in the hypochondrium, connecting to the lower abdomen causing middle-cold. This is Metal overcoming Wood.
For the year's Qi, salty flavor should be used to soften it, regulating the upper part. In severe cases, bitter flavor should be used to drain fire and disperse. Sour flavor should be used to tonify Metal and astringe, stabilizing the lower part.
Tai Yin Shi Tu (Damp-Earth ruling the Heaven), Tai Yang Han Shui (Cold Water governing the Earth). In Ji years and other remaining years, for both South and North Polarity, the Left Chi pulse and Right Cun pulse are non-responsive.
In Jia Yin and Jia Shen years: Excessive damp-wetness causes heavy body, edema, and痞 (fullness) with fluid retention.
In Bing Yin and Bing Shen years: Metal generates Water. The disease of Xiang Huo involves victory and revenge, alternating to cause cold edema.
In Wu Yin and Wu Shen years: Both are Tian Fu years. Disease involves heat stagnation and blood overflow, bloody stool, heart pain. Fire Qi is vigorous, internally corresponding to the Heart. In Jia years, there are rare anomalies; Jia Metal assists Lung but suffers Fire punishment. Qi accumulates and solidifies; disease severity is halved.
In Geng Yin and Geng Shen years: Restricted by Heaven-ruling Qi, Metal achieves balance. This is the "Jian Cheng" cycle. Upper manifestations resemble normal Shang pitch. Metal Qi harmonizes with Fire transformation. Pathogen resides in the Lung. Disease affects shoulder, back, and chest.
In Ren Yin and Ren Shen years: Both correspond to Tian Fu. Wood-Fire disease causes tremors, dizziness, hypochondriac fullness, and fright.
Fire and Wood share virtue, corresponding above to Ying Huo (Mars) and Sui Xing (Jupiter). Wind and Heat distribute equally. Victory and revenge cause middle-cold. External manifestation: sores. Internal manifestation: diarrhea and fullness. External heat, internal cold. Malaria, dysentery, deafness, blindness, vomiting with qi rebellion, edema with color change. Heat prevails then Cold returns. This is Water-Fire contention.
First Qi: Host Qi is Wind-Wood; Guest Qi is Jun Huo. Wood and Fire intertwine fiercely. Warm diseases spread. Blood overflow, red eyes, cough and rebellious Qi, headache, metrorrhagia, hypochondriac fullness, sores in skin and pores.
Second Qi: Host Qi is Jun Huo; Guest Qi is Wet-Earth. Fire is depressed by Earth. Wind cannot overcome Damp. Heat stagnates in the upper part. Cough and rebellious Qi, vomiting, chest fullness, headache, confusion, purulent sores.
Third Qi: Host Qi is Xiang Huo; Guest Qi is Xiang Huo. Feared Fire intersects. Heat in the middle. Deafness, blindness, blood overflow, cough, vomiting, epistaxis, thirst, sneezing, throat obstruction, red eyes. Prone to sudden death.
Fourth Qi: Host Qi is Wet-Earth; Guest Qi is Dry-Metal. Cool air arrives, alternating cold and heat. Dryness and Damp mix. Chest fullness, body heaviness. Self-disease of Lung and Spleen.
Fifth Qi: Host Qi is Dry-Metal; Guest Qi is Cold-Water. Metal is肃 (solemn/clear), Water is cold. Pathogenic Qi should be avoided.
Final Qi: Host Qi is Cold-Water; Guest Qi is Wind-Wood. Wind-Wood receives Water. All things grow again. Closing mechanisms fail. Heart pain. Yang Qi does not store, causing cough.
Wind rises suddenly. Flame Qi circulates. Governance is disturbed and abandoned. Cold and heat alternate. Salty, Pungent, and Sour flavors are suitable. Drain, purge, soak, and disperse. Salty overcomes Fire. Pungent treats Wood. Sour overcomes Wood-Fire nature. Draining and purging remove excess from bowels. Soaking and dispersing remove pathogen from pores.
Yang Ming Zao Jin (Dryness Metal ruling the Heaven), Shao Yin Jun Huo (Ministerial Fire governing the Earth). In Ji years and other remaining years, for both South and North Polarity, both Chi pulses and both Cun pulses are non-responsive.
In Yi Mao (Tian Fu) and Yi You (Sui Hui, Tai Yi Tian Fu): Heaven-ruling Qi assists. Follows Xin Metal transformation. Upper Shang pitch resembles normal Shang. Metal transport is deficient. Disaster affects Dui 7 Palace (Due West).
In Ding Mao (Sui Hui) and Ding You: Heaven-ruling Qi overcomes transport. Metal combines with Wood transformation. Reverts to "Wei He" (Compliant Harmony) cycle. Upper Shang pitch resembles normal Shang. Wood transport is deficient. Disaster affects East Zhen 3 Palace. Heaven-ruling Qi controls Wood, differing from Shao Jue example.
In Ji Mao and Ji You: Earth transport is deficient. Disaster affects Center 5 Palace.

Metal and Fire possess combined virtue, corresponding above to Tai Bai (Venus) and Ying Huo (Mars). Governance is urgent and comprehensive. Metal is insufficient. Wood and Fire overcome it. Wood has no fear. Thus, scattered Wood Qi acts sequentially and violently. More Yang, less Yin. Wind-Damp flows at Qi intersection. Cough, vomiting, throat obstruction, cold and heat attacks, sudden trembling, strangury. Clear/Cold comes first and is strong. Hair animals suffer. Heat follows violently. Shell animals suffer.
First Qi: Host Qi is Wind-Wood; Guest Qi is Wet-Earth. Wind-Damp causes disease. Internal heat and distension. Facial and ocular edema. Somnolence, vomiting, epistaxis, yellow-red urine. Severe cases: strangury. Spleen and Kidney injured.
Second Qi: Host Qi is Jun Huo; Guest Qi is Xiang Huo. Two Fires intertwine fiercely. Minister position serves Ruler. Epidemics spread widely. Sudden death from Fire.
Third Qi: Host Qi is Xiang Huo; Guest Qi is Dry-Metal. Dry-Heat combine. Extreme dryness brings moisture. Cold and heat disorders are inevitable. Near Fourth Qi, Water and Earth provide moisture.
Fourth Qi: Host Qi is Wet-Earth; Guest Qi is Cold-Water.
Fifth Qi: Host Qi is Dry-Metal; Guest Qi is Wind-Wood.
Final Qi: Host Qi is Cold-Water; Guest Qi is Jun Huo. Yang Qi spreads. Climate is abnormally warm. Hibernating insects appear. Water does not freeze. Fire transformation is vigorous. Disease is damp.
Yang Qi monopolizes command. Intense summer heat circulates. Wind-Dryness crosses annual transport. Extremes bring moisture. Cold and heat rise mutually. Salty flavor following Water transformation treats this. Fire should be cleared. Named as Fire governing Earth. Bitter flavor following Fire transformation treats this. Metal should be dispersed. Metal governing Heaven. Pungent flavor following Metal transformation harmonizes with Heaven-ruling Qi to seek balance.
Tai Yang Han Shui (Cold Water ruling the Heaven), Tai Yin Shi Tu (Damp-Earth governing the Earth). In Jia years and other remaining years, for both South and North Polarity, the Right Chi pulse and Left Cun pulse are non-responsive.
