The pharynx is the pathway for food and drink, and the larynx is the region for respiration; neither can tolerate even a trace of pathogenic factors, otherwise it will develop into throat disorders. For pain in the pharynx and larynx, Jiune (Neiting, ST44) should be moxibusted. For throat ulcers (Houchuang) and wind-throat conditions (Houfeng), Tiantu (Tiantu, CV22) should be urgently moxibusted.
Teeth are the surplus of bones, and their pathology is governed by the Kidney. However, pain caused by blazing fire in the Yangming channel, or due to wind or worms, or due to deficiency, may not respond quickly to herbal medicine; moxibustation must be used. If cheek swelling accompanies toothache, Fengchi (Fengchi, GB20) should be moxibusted; if redness and swelling accompany toothache, Shousanli (Shousanli, LI10) should be moxibusted; for dental caries with pain, Neiting (Neiting, ST44) must be moxibusted.
Epistaxis (nosebleed) is caused by fire in the Lung and Liver. The Lung opens into the nose, and the Liver stores blood; when fire blazes within these two channels, blood boils and exits through the nasal orifice. Urgently, one Zhu (unit of moxa cone) should be applied to Hegu (Hegu, LI4).
When Gallbladder heat transfers to the brain, it causes "brain leakage" (nausal discharge), where yellow and turbid fluid exits from the nose, sometimes with a foul odor. There are also cases of nasal congestion with loss of smell. In all such cases, Shangxing (Shangxing, GV23) should be moxibusted.
The chin (Ke) is the area from the lower lip to its tip, commonly known as the jawline. Cases of collapse or protrusion here due to Qi deficiency or yawning can be treated by moxibusting Fengchi (Fengchi, GB20).
Texts state that seminal emission during dreams is called nocturnal emission (Mengyi), while spontaneous emission without dreams is called spermatorrhea (Jinghua). Generally, nocturnal emissions result from excessive ministerial fire (Xianghuo), while spermatorrhea results from damage to the Heart and Kidney. Treatment plans should distinguish between excess and deficiency; moxibustation generally suits Guanyuan (Guanyuan, CV4), Zhongji (Zhongji, CV3), and Sanyinjiao (Sanyinjiao, SP6). If there is no improvement, further moxibustation on Shenshu (Shenshu, BL23) is appropriate.
Zhu Danxi stated: The causes of turbid discharge (Zhuozheng) are twofold: obese individuals often have damp-heat, while thin individuals often have Kidney deficiency. Essentially, due to a deficient constitution, the Lower Jiao becomes empty, allowing damp-heat to obstruct the essence orifices, resulting in red and white turbid discharge. One should moxibust Guanyuan (Guanyuan, CV4) and simultaneously moxibust Xingjian (Xingjian, LR2) for natural recovery.
