Jinkui Shenqi Wan (Golden Cabinet Kidney Qi Pill) treats cases of cough and counterflow qi caused by deficiency of kidney yin, failure of body fluids to descend, and transformation of turbid substances into phlegm.
The formula is found in the Section on Tonifying Deficiency. Note: This discussion is found in the Section on Phlegm-Fluids.
Liangfang Bufei Tang (Good Prescriptions Lung-Tonifying Decoction) treats lao sou (consumptive cough).
Sangbaipi (Morus Alba Root Bark), Shudihuang (Prepared Rehmannia Root) (each 2 liang), Renshen (Ginseng), Ziwan (Asteris Radix), Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix), Chuan Wuweizi (Schisandrae Chinensis Fructus) (each 1 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Take 2 qian per dose, decoct with water, add a small amount of honey, and take orally.
Note: These two formulas are examples of Shaoyin channel medications. However, for various formulas treating heat as mentioned previously, they can all be selected for use. But since the cough arises from consumption (lao), the cough itself is not the root cause. The usage of Liangfang Jie Lao San (Good Prescriptions Robbing Consumption Powder) is correct; therefore, tonifying formulas are not listed individually as examples.
Shenshi Siman Wan (Deep Teacher Four-Fullness Pill) treats five types of cough: one is Shangqi Sou (cough with counterflow qi), two is Yin Sou (cough due to fluid retention), three is Feng Sou (wind cough), four is Leng Sou (cold cough), and five is Xie Sou (evil cough).
Ganjiang (Dried Ginger), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig), Zhizhu Hua (Daphne Genkwa Flower), Xiong (Ligusticum Wallichii Rhizome), Ziwan (Asteris Radix), Yuanhuagenpi (Genkwa Flos Bark) (each 2 fen), Wugong (Centipede) (one piece, remove head and feet, roast), Xixin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted), Guidu You (Dichroa Febrifuga Root), Renshen (Ginseng), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (each 1 fen).
Grind the above into powder. Use refined honey to make pills the size of soybeans. Take 5 pills per dose with rice drink, three times daily. If ineffective, increase to 7 or 8 pills. Avoid mutton, maltose, green onions, and raw vegetables.
Note: This belongs to the Taiyang channel medication examples. "Xie" refers to diseases caused by evil spirits or ghostly influences, hence this formula was established. As stated in Qianjin Fang, those who dream of intercourse with ghosts and have abnormal dietary habits should use Tongqi Wan, relying entirely on Centipede. It seems there were such cases cured in Lu. I preserve it here to illustrate its intent, but few people today can recognize such conditions, let alone treat them. Claiming it can universally treat five types of cough is likely incorrect. For instance, regarding "wind" named coughs, does the pathological body not involve heat or damp-heat?
Qingzhou Bai Wanzi (Qingzhou White Pills)
Shuizhu Jinhua Wan (Water-Boiled Golden Flower Pill) treats cough accompanied by a wiry pulse, bluish complexion, fullness in the four limbs, constipation and dysuria, and irritability.

Note: This is a formula for treating heat-phlegm.
Jufang Wenzhong Wan (Bureau Formula Warm-Middle Pill)
Jiyao Jianggui Wan (Essentials Ginger-Cinnamon Pill) treats cough accompanied by a deep pulse, dark complexion, urgent painful urination, and cold/reversed extremities.
Note: This is a formula for treating cold-phlegm. (The above formulas are all found in the Section on Phlegm-Fluids.)
Baizhu Wan (Atractylodes Macrocephala Pill) treats cough accompanied by a slow pulse, yellowish complexion, heaviness of the limbs, lethargy, abdominal distension, and indigestion.
Nanxing (Arisaematis Tuber, processed), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, processed) (each 1 liang), Baizhu (Atractodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) (1.5 liang).
Grind into fine powder. Soak steamed bread dough in soup to act as a binder. Make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50-60 pills per dose with ginger decoction.
Note: This is a formula for treating damp-phlegm.
Yufen Wan (Jade Powder Pill) treats cough accompanied by a choppy pulse, pale face, upward rushing qi with panting, alternating chills and fever, sadness, worry, and unhappiness.
Nanxing (Arisaematis Tuber, processed), Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber, processed) (each 1 liang), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (1 liang).
Grind the above into powder. Soak steamed bread dough to act as a binder. Make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30-40 pills per dose with Ginseng and ginger decoction.
Note: This is a formula for treating qi-phlegm.
Ruizhutang Huatan Wan (Ruizhu Hall Resolving Phlegm Pill) promotes qi circulation, benefits the spleen, resolves phlegm, and aids digestion.
Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber), Nanxing (Arisaematis Tuber, peeled), Bainfan (Alumen), Zaojiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, sliced), Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger) (each 1 jin).

Soak steamed bread dough to act as a binder. Make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 50-70 pills per dose before sleep or after meals, with tea or wine as desired.
Note: This is a formula for treating food-phlegm.
Danxi Xiaowei Dan (Danxi Stomach-Smallening Pill) treats shoulder and arm pain caused by heat-phlegm and damp-phlegm above the diaphragm.
Gansui (Kansui Radix, wrapped in wet flour dough and soaked for half a day), Daji (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix, boiled in running water for one shichen, then washed again), Yuanhua (Genkwa Flos, mixed with vinegar and left overnight, lightly stir-fried on tile until scorched, each 0.5 liang), Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex, stir-fried) (3 liang), Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, wrapped in paper and baked in wet ash, cut, soaked in wine, and stir-fried) (1.5 liang).

Note: This is a formula for treating damp-heat.

Cut into pieces. Add three large slices of ginger. Decoct and take.
Note: This is a formula for treating wind-dampness.
Daotan Tang (Great Phlegm-Resolving Decoction)
Banxia (Pinelliae Tuber) (4 liang), Nanxing (Arisaematis Tuber), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), Chi Fuling (Polyporus with Red Heart), Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) (each 1 liang), Gancao (Licorice Root) (0.5 liang). Cut into pieces. Take 1 liang per dose, add ginger, and decoct.
Note: This is a formula for regulating qi and guiding out phlegm. However, various formulas for treating accumulation caused by phlegm-fluids leading to cough are detailed in the Section on Phlegm-Fluids; they are not recorded here in full.

Moxibustion/Fumigation Method
For chronic cough with wind invading the lungs, use Eguan Shi (Tube Stone), Xionghuang (Realgar), Yujin (Curcumae Radix), and Kua Donghua (Winterflower Bud). Grind into powder and mix with mugwort. Place a slice of fresh ginger on the tongue, perform moxibustion so that smoke enters the throat to the appropriate degree. Alternatively, roll the medicine into a tube, burn it, and inhale the smoke, which is also effective.
