Grains enter the Spleen (Pi Zang), beans enter the Kidney (Shen Zang), wheat enters the Liver (Gan Zang), millet enters the Lung (Fei Zang), and sesame enters the Heart (Xin Zang).
Jingmi (Coix Seed/Rice Grain) is warm in nature and harmonizes the Middle Jiao and Stomach; Shumi (Glutinous Millet) can treat Lacquer Dermatitis (Qi Chuang), relieve thirst, and eliminate irritability, but aged stored rice (Chen Cang Mi) must be used. Huangdou (Soybean) is said to dispel evil spirits and ward off malignancy, while Heidou (Black Soybean) is suitable for medicinal use. If one asks about "Huang Juan" (Yellow Scroll), it refers to bean sprouts.
Rice (Mi) has a sweet flavor and warm nature, and is non-toxic. Jingmi is the ordinary rice consumed daily. Shumi is the glutinous rice used for brewing wine; there are many varieties that cannot be fully listed. Its main functions are eliminating irritability and stopping dysentery. Among beans, only black ones are used medicinally, preferably stir-fried until cooked. They have a sweet flavor and neutral nature, and are non-toxic; other colors are unsuitable for medicinal use.
