(We) have carefully examined. *Ruizhutang Jingyan Fang* (Experience Formulas from Ruizhu Hall), consisting of five volumes, was compiled by Shatumusu (originally named Sali Mishí, now corrected) of the Yuan Dynasty. There is no biography of Shatumusu in the *History of Yuan*, and his life details are untraceable. By cross-referencing with two prefaces written by Wu Cheng and Wang Duzhong, we find that his courtesy name was Qianzhai. He served as the Prefect of Jianchang while holding the office of Censor; this book was compiled during his tenure in the commandery. The original work consisted of fifteen volumes. The Catalogue of the Wenyuan Pavilion, compiled by Yang Shiqi and others, records one copy in one volume, and Chao Gongwu’s *Baowentang Mulu* also lists its title. This indicates that before the mid-Ming Dynasty, the complete original text still existed, but later it became rare. Currently, based on the content recorded in *Yongle Dadian*, we have collected and edited it. Calculating the missing parts, more than half has been lost, yet much remains. We have cautiously arranged the formulas into twenty-four categories, divided into five volumes. For instance, in the category of "Regulating and Tonifying," metallic and mineral drugs are rarely used, making the prescriptions particularly pure and correct. Furthermore, Bazhen San (Eight-Treasure Powder) for gynecology is a combined formula of Sijunzi Tang (Four Gentlemen Decoction) and Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction), which has a particularly wide application; this was already detailed in the medical cases of Xue Ji from the Ming Dynasty. Regarding Fanhun Dan (Soul-Returning Pill) recorded in dermatology/surgery, it is similar to Meihua Dianshe Dan (Plum-Blossom Pointed Tongue Pill) and Duoming Dan (Life-Snatching Pill) used by modern surgeons; Neituo Qianjin San (Internal Support Thousand-Gold Powder) for treating carbuncles and toxins also shows remarkable efficacy. These can all be utilized for benefit and relief. However, He Wan (Brown Pill) for pediatrics is similar in name and therapeutic effect to the He Wan listed in *Su Shen Liang Fang*. Yet, the latter combines purging and tonifying methods, being quite thorough, whereas this one is overly harsh and draining. Generally, formulas from the Jin and Yuan Dynasties were often like this, due to the robust constitution of northern people requiring different treatments compared to southern people. This requires flexible adjustment according to circumstances and should not be constrained by fixed rules.
Respectfully submitted after collation in February of the 50th year of Qianlong.
This formula was effective when taken in previous generations. After taking wind-dispelling herbs, peace was restored after thirteen days. It can treat lower back and leg pain, hemiplegia, inability to flex and extend limbs, and deviation of the mouth and eyes.
Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma, four liang, roasted) Chen Xiang (Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum, five qian, shaved) Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, one liang) Tiantai W Yao (Tasmanniae Fructus, three liang) Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, five qian, pith removed)
Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, five qian each) Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix, pith removed, five qian)
The above ingredients are processed into coarse powder. Each dose takes three qian, added with one dan and a half of water, three slices of fresh ginger, five leaves of perilla, three slices of quince, and one jujube. Decoct until reduced to seventy percent,
