The *Gui Yi Fang* states: Nei Jiu Ju (Internal Guilt Carbuncle) erupts in both axillae, arms, and the palms of both hands. It presents with chills and high fever, dry throat, vomiting after excessive drinking, mental restlessness, and a surging pulse. If these signs persist on the sixth, seventh, or eighth day, diaphoresis (inducing sweating) may be employed; if diaphoresis fails, death ensues.
Wang Kentang states: Que Pen Ju (Clavicle Carbuncle), also known as Suo Gu Ju (Clavicular Carbuncle), arises in the depression anterior to the shoulder. It is characterized by severe alternating chills and fever, reduced appetite, stiffness and tension in the shoulder and back, difficult urination, and distension of the chest and abdomen. This condition belongs to the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian and the Hand Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian. It is suitable for treatment with Garlic-Separated Moxibustion. If treatment is delayed even slightly, ulceration will inevitably occur. Since this meridian is deficient in blood and abundant in Qi, the wound sore will fail to heal, leading to critical conditions in many cases. (*Yi Zong Zhun Sheng*)
The *Xin Fa* states: This carbuncle, also known as Du Ju (Carpophage Carbuncle), is formed by accumulated heat in the Gallbladder and Stomach meridians.
Wang Kentang states: Yong (Carbuncle), commonly known as Bing Ou Bao (Diseased Lotus Root Packet), involves swelling and redness on both the superficial and deep aspects of the arm, with the elbow joint being relatively less swollen, hence the name "Lotus Root Packet." Yin and Yang are distinguished based on whether the lesion is external or internal. (*Yi Zong Zhun Sheng*)
Chen Shigong states: Yong arising on the upper arm, extending from the shoulder with generalized swelling, long-standing and hard in texture, is this type of disease. (*Wai Ke Zheng Zong*)
Xue Shi states: Yong located below the shoulder and above the elbow presents with diffuse swelling all around, redness, and similar characteristics on both medial and lateral sides, on the left and right. It is caused by the conglomeration of Wind-Warmth or Wind-Fire. Initially, it resembles a pinch of millet seeds, or sometimes starts as a single stiff nodule. Gradually, it becomes swollen, red, and hot, with severe pain upon suppuration. In the area outside the redness and swelling, the absence of an areola indicates a favorable prognosis; two areolas indicate a dangerous prognosis; three or four areolas indicate an unfavorable prognosis.
He further states: You Bao Du (Lotus Root Packet Toxin) manifests as swelling internally, or as a single lump swelling externally, resembling a peach or a goose/duck egg. The internal aspect belongs to the Three Yin Meridians of the Hand, and the external aspect belongs to the Three Yang Meridians of the Hand. It is effective to add guiding herbs (Meridian-guiding drugs).
