Erjin San (from *Qixuan*)
*Jineijin* (Gallbladder Membrane) and *Yujin* (Curcuma Longa Rhizome), in equal parts, are ground into fine powder. First, wash the affected area with salt water solution, then insufflate the powder onto the lesion.
Yawning is caused by deficiency of middle Qi in the spleen and stomach, as well as mental fatigue and overexertion. The Classics state: When the Foot-Yangming [Stomach] channel is disturbed, it causes aversion to cold with shivering, a desire to stretch, and frequent yawning. "Yawning" involves Yang drawing upward and Yin drawing downward; this indicates that Essence and Spirit fail to rely on each other, and Yin and Yang fail to guard each other.
All types of tongue carbuncles, sores, and bi-syndromes are compiled in this section for easy reference and treatment consultation.
The tongue is the sprout of the Heart, corresponding to the Fire element of the South. When pathogenic factors are at the exterior, no coating forms; when pathogens enter the interior, body fluids bind and coagulate, resulting in a coating that appears slippery. A white coating indicates heat in the Dantian [lower abdomen/kidney region] and cold in the chest, with pathogens located at the half-exterior/half-interior level. As heat penetrates deeper, the tongue becomes dry and rough due to heat accumulating in the Stomach; Chengqi Tang or Baihu Tang should be used. If a heat disease causes dry mouth and black tongue coating, it signifies Kidney Water suppressing Heart Fire, indicating profound heat and critical illness. (However, there are cases where black coating belongs to cold syndromes, characterized by the absence of prickles on the tongue and sufficient saliva in the mouth. Even variations in urine color, oral moisture, and coating slipperiness depend on the flourishing or withering of body fluids, and are insufficient grounds for hasty diagnosis of cold or heat. Therefore, one must carefully distinguish based on whether the pulse is forceful or weak. In summary, physicians treating diseases must adapt flexibly to changing circumstances, avoiding rigid adherence to specific formulas or herbs. One need not merely use drugs to treat diseases, but rather use drugs to regulate the pulse. Since the Qi and fortune of ancient times differ from those of today, how can old formulas perfectly match new diseases? One should only read the books, expand their meanings, examine the formulas, grasp their principles, and ponder them silently to naturally attain their spirit. As Luo described, it is like dismantling old materials to build a new house, ensuring stability and craftsmanship.)
A white coating results from heat gathering in the Dantian, cold lingering in the chest and diaphragm, and steaming dampness. Treatment should focus on drying dampness and harmonizing the middle.
A slippery white coating indicates that pathogens have not yet entered the Fu organs and remain at the half-exterior/half-interior level; reconciliation therapy is appropriate. As heat deepens, the coating becomes dry and rough.
A yellow coating indicates pathogenic heat in the Stomach Fu organ; purgation is appropriate.
Black coating with prickles on the tongue has two causes: either Water overcoming Fire leading to extreme cold, or extreme heat resembling Water. Differentiate using pulse characteristics (slow/rapid, forceful/weak). One condition requires Dachengqi Tang, while the other requires Lizhong Tang. These are critical conditions with a mortality rate of nine out of ten.
If black coating with prickles on the tongue cannot be scraped off and regenerates easily, death ensues.
Tongue retraction, testicular retraction, cyanotic nails, unconsciousness, blue complexion, and convulsions indicate Liver Qi exhaustion.
