All ingredients are ground into fine powder and mixed evenly. Add 3 fen of real musk (Zhen She Xiang) and 6 fen of borneol (Zhen Bing Pian), grind again and mix, then place in a small jar. Seal the jar mouth tightly with Wujin paper. Each time use a reed tube to blow the medicine into the affected area. Blow more than ten times a day and night. As phlegm and saliva flow out slowly, the condition gradually improves. If there is putrid odor, immediately rinse clean with clam water, or crush pig's tooth soapwort (Zhu Ya Cao) and biota seeds (Bian Bai Zi), add water, remove dregs, and rinse clean. In this case, add to the previous five qian of medicine: 2 fen of calomel (Niu Huang - *Note: Context implies Calomel or similar, but Niu Huang is Ox Gallstone; standard text often varies, here following literal translation of Niu Huang*), 5 fen of copper green (Tong Qing), bear bile (Xiong Dan), pearl (Zhen Zhu), and 8 fen of catechu (Er Cha), grind fine and blow in. Modern throat specialists often extort money, and there are many who administer drugs. Those with means should compound and distribute them to others to accumulate merit for their descendants.

Kui Guang Secret Transmission Method for Throat and Dental Compound Medicine:
Yu Dan (Prepare this in advance; the older, the better.) Put thumb-sized chunks of alum (Ming Fan) in a jar, melt over charcoal fire. When no lumps remain at the bottom tested by chopsticks, add saltpeter (Huo Xiao) equivalent to 3 qian per 1 liang of alum. Borax (Peng Sha) ratio is also 3 qian per 1 liang of alum. Add alum again when melted, then saltpeter and borax as before, layer by layer. When the jar mouth piles up like a steamed bun, use strong fire to refine until dry. Cover jar mouth with clean tile, wait one shichen, remove. Mix fine powder of ox gallstone (Niu Huang) with 5-6 spoons of water, drip onto the pill using a spoon. Return jar to fire to dry, then remove. Invert jar on clean ground, pad with paper, cover with tile for seven days. Store for use.
Method for processing Phellodendron Bark (Huang Bo): Select good Huang Bo slices, use Schizonepeta spikes (Jingjie Sui) as main ingredient, Licorice (Gan Cao) as assistant, decoct thick liquid, soak slices until soft, spread on tiles, slow-roast until yellow, do not burn. Dry with wine and white honey water, grind to powder.
Method for processing rush pith ash (Deng Xin Hui): Take white rush pith, moisten with water, stuff tightly into thick brush pipe, seal ends with paper, burn slowly in fire. Remove pipe and paper. If not burnt through, it is raw; if burnt too much, it disappears. Method must be correct.
Method for processing pig's tooth soapwort (Zhu Ya Zao Jiao): Take hard, small, non-borer soapwort, roast on tile until crisp, remove ends, grind to powder. Store tightly in porcelain bottle.
Method for processing nitre: For Jin Dan, use fire nitre. Dip in warm water, wipe dry with cotton paper, wrap, place in stove hole for 5-6 days to absorb moisture. Not needed for Yu Dan.
Method for combining Bi Dan: Use 3 fen of Yu Dan, mix with half spoon of soot (Baicao Shuang). Add 1 li of rush pith ash, 3 spoons of licorice powder, 3 fen of Mentha powder. Grind fine. Then add 5 fen of good borneol (more is better). Mix well, store in small porcelain bottle, do not leak air. Combine just before use, do not keep more than 3 days, do not make on cloudy days. Spring/Summer: add more Mentha powder (green color). Autumn/Winter: add more Yu Dan (white color). To induce phlegm expulsion, add a little soapwort.
Method for combining Jin Dan: Use 1.8 qian of refined nitre, add 4 fen of raw Polygonum bistorte pollen (Pu Huang) fine powder. Grind fine. Add 1 fen of silkworm powder, 1 fen of soapwort powder. Mix to pale yellow. Add 1 fen of borneol, grind again. This medicine can be stored long-term; add borneol before use.
Note: Jin Dan's main function is reducing swelling and expelling phlegm, treating tooth biting, tongue licking, and penetrating tooth carbuncles. Use exclusively for these. For throat conditions, combine with Bi Dan, adjusting based on severity. For severe cases, add ox gallstone (Niu Huang). For throat swelling/wind, add silkworm and soapwort. For mild cases, use only nitre and Polygonum bistorte pollen. Bi Dan resolves phlegm, clears heat, detoxifies, and dispels wind; it is a good but mild formula. Jin Dan is more miraculous for reducing swelling/toxicity, clearing wind-heat, opening throat closure, and expelling phlegm. However, at the initial stage of throat disease, Jin Dan should not be used excessively because it penetrates deeply and disperses quickly; excessive use in mild cases may cause rejection. For throat diseases and single/double tonsillitis, use only Bi Dan. For other severe cases, combine Jin and Bi Dan, distinguishing sequence and quantity. Initial stage: Bi Dan (9 parts), Jin Dan (1 part). After blowing 5 times: Bi Dan (8 parts), Jin Dan (2 parts). Then blow: Bi Dan (7 parts), Jin Dan (3 parts). For severe cases: Bi Dan and Jin Dan equal halves. After 3-5 times, phlegm rises. Then Jin Dan (6 parts), Bi Dan (4 parts). Insert tube straight into throat, blow heavily once, withdraw tube to draw out phlegm. Alternatively, use Jin Dan (8 parts), Bi Dan (2 parts).
Paste Medicine Method: Mentha (Jun/Emperor), Yu Dan (Chen/Minister), Fritillaria Bulb (Zuo/Assistant), rush pith ash, soot, licorice, borneol (Shi/Messenger). First grind Yu Dan and soot, add rush pith ash and grind, add Mentha, licorice, Fritillaria and grind fine, finally add borneol and grind. Mix with honey and take. For throat abscesses/fungi, hold and swallow frequently. Severe cases require decoctions and blowing medicines.

Mint 3 fen, catechu 1.5 fen, processed Phellodendron Bark ~1 fen, dragon bone 2 fen, Angelica Dahurica Root 2.5 hao. If swollen/painful, use 3-4 fen total. Licorice and pearl 5 fen each. Grind separately, mix, grind again. Add borneol 3 fen, grind uniform. Store in porcelain jar. Use for mouth cracks/gangrene. If initial swelling/heat is severe, use more mint. If not swollen/mild heat/chronic, focus on flesh growth: add more catechu, pearl, dragon bone. For purple color/general throat ulcers, also use for flesh growth. For gangrenous stomatitis, penetrating tooth carbuncle, heavy tongue, infant toxin/mouth gangrene, add ox gallstone, double pearl. Effective. Black/rotten cases are incurable. Yellow infant gangrene like dry orange pulp is incurable. For post-measles mouth gangrene, remove Phellodendron and dragon bone, add ox gallstone, double pearl to 5 fen each (more is better). Generally, for critical/refractory cases or rapid effect, add ox gallstone and pearl 5 fen each (more is better). Post-varicella gangrene requires this. Other conditions benefit greatly. When using Bi Dan, increase borneol for severe cases, increase licorice for recovery. Blow for throat pain.
