Jiang Shiji stated: Swellings arise on the head, chest, and breasts of newborn infants, large as steamed buns or small as plums and medlars. This is caused by the stagnation of fetal blood stasis (blood stasis formed during gestation). One must wait until the infant is past one month old before puncturing with a needle; if fluid resembling red bean juice is discharged, the condition will stabilize. Internally administer Wufu Huadu Dan (Five Blessings Toxin-Resolving Pill) [Source: *Yizong Yueyue*].
*Yizong Xinfa* states: Fetal tumors are caused by accumulated heat in the pregnant mother, leading to heat in the uterus (womb), compounded by blood stasis and stagnation. They mostly occur on the head and between the chest and breasts. Initially like a plum pit, they gradually enlarge to the size of a steamed bun, appearing purplish and slightly hard, with diffuse swelling but little pain. If present at birth, wait until after one month when the lesion is ripe before puncturing to discharge red bean-like fluid or pus, after which the swelling subsides. If arising after one month, one must wait for the abscess to become fully distended and ripe before puncturing.
Wu Bankian stated: Red-threaded tumors, also known as fetal tumors, have no fixed location and grow gradually from small to large. Infants may suffer from this shortly after birth or between one and two years of age. The tumor skin is red with visible blood threads inside, and some cases rupture spontaneously. Although the treatment method is similar to that for fetal tumors, this disease stems from latent fire in the congenital Kidney (Shen organ), where essence contains blood threads transmitted via Qi to the offspring, resulting in this ailment. Ultimately, it is a Fire syndrome and difficult to heal/converge.
Chen Shigong stated: While in the womb, if the mother consumes the "Five Pungents" (five pungent vegetables/herbs) and favors roasted/grilled foods, residual heat is passed to the infant. After birth, milk eczema appears all over the head, face, and body, oozing lipid in patches, causing restlessness during sleep and incessant itching. Treat with Wen Ge San [Source: *Waike Zhengzong*].
Wu Bankian stated: Milk eczema in newborns resembles scabies and leprosy. It begins on the hands and feet, then spreads to the abdomen and back, lingering persistently. Use Silkworm (Bombyx Batryticatus) in any quantity, remove the head, grind into powder, and decoct for bathing. Bathe once daily to allow toxins to emerge, then rub Qingdai San (Indigo Naturalis Powder) onto the affected area.
*Yizong Xinfa* states: This condition initially appears on the crown of the head or at the eyebrows, presenting with itching, white scales, and a shape resembling scabies or tinea. It is caused by fetal blood heat and wind invasion after birth, leading to chronic persistence; this is dry eczema (dry tinea). If mistakenly washed with hot water or exposed to fire, causing millet-like papules on the skin, extreme itching, and weeping yellow fluid spreading over the body, it becomes wet eczema (wet tinea). For dry types, apply Runji Gao (Moisturizing Muscle Ointment); for wet types, sprinkle a mixture of Huangbai End (Phellodendron Bark) and Talcum (Hua Shi) evenly; for severe itching, use Wuyun Gao (Dark Cloud Ointment).
