Treating Gu Poison: Decoct pomegranate peel (Rhus chinensis Fruit Pericarpium) thickly and drink the juice to induce vomiting of toxic substances.
Another prescription: Dissolve half a fen of alum (Alumen) in hot tea, take it to induce vomiting.
Another prescription: Mix three qian of Curcuma aromatica Rhizome powder (Yujin) with rice water and take it.
Another prescription (cited from Jin Duo): First, take one cun of roasted licorice root (Zhi Gancao), chew it and swallow the juice; if poisoned, one will vomit immediately. Then, decoct three liang of roasted licorice root and four liang of fresh ginger in six sheng of water until two sheng remain, take orally three times a day. If chewing licorice does not induce vomiting, it is not Gu poison.
Another prescription (from *Collected Works of Fan Shihu*): In the past, Li Xi, while serving as a Tui Guan (Judicial Commissioner) in Leizhou, obtained a prescription for treating Gu poison. If the toxin is in the upper part, use primrose root (Shengma) to induce vomiting; if the toxin is in the abdomen, use turmeric rhizome (Yujin) to purge downwards. Or combine these two herbs and take them together; if there is no vomiting, there will be diarrhea, saving many lives.
Po Gu Quan Sheng Tang (Broken Gu Complete Life Decoction)
Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen) and Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) (each 1 liang); Alum (Baifan), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Gancao), Pinelliae Rhizoma Preparatum (Banxia) (each 3 qian); Poria (Fuling) (5 qian).
Decoct in water and take orally.
Those who have ingested Gelsemium elegans Root (Duanchangcao) initially experience dull pain in the chest. After a long time, Qi circulation becomes obstructed. When abdominal pain occurs, both urination and defecation become impossible, leading to death. This herb is also known as Gelsemium elegans Radix et Caulis (Gouwen). It is an extremely Yin substance, resembling Polygonatum odoratum Rhizoma (Huangjing), with leaves like two hair hooks. This herb tends to close off Qi and particularly impedes blood circulation. The obstruction of Qi and Blood leads to death; it is not that the intestines are actually broken. This herb grows abundantly in Fujian and Guangdong. Women, due to minor grievances, often resort to extreme measures, eating it to seek death as if it were candy, because it causes little suffering. Some use sheep's blood to induce vomiting; if vomiting occurs, the patient survives, but if not, rescue is often impossible. This herb kills slowly. Using detoxifying and purgative agents ensures survival, unlike arsenic trioxide (Pifu) which is fierce. Tong Chang Jie Du Tang (Intestine-Purging Detoxification Decoction) [from *Bing Jian*] is suitable.
Accidental ingestion of Zhong Duanchangcao, which is similar to Callicarpa nudiflora (Zhenzhulan), also called Shuimangteng poison: Crack open three or four raw eggs and administer orally.
Another prescription
Black soybean (one cup, ground) and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Recens (Sheng Gancao) (5 qian).
Decoct into a thick liquid and take orally; the poison is resolved immediately.
Another prescription: Dissolve alum in water to detoxify.
Another prescription: Administer about one bowl of hot sheep's blood; once all toxic matter is vomited out, the patient will recover spontaneously.
Another prescription: Crush fresh leaves of Ilex aquifolium (Dongqingye) in cold water to extract juice and take orally to resolve the poison.
Another prescription: Take a chick embryo from a hen sitting on eggs, split it open, mix with clarified oil, and administer orally.
