*Yizong Xinfa* states: Shanlou (Eel Fistula) arises from damp-heat. In the initial stage, it resembles wet eczema, appearing on the calf, with alternating pain and itching. Upon rupture, yellow fluid flows continuously. The orifice is deep like a drilled hole. If cold pathogen invades the wound, it causes coldness of the wound and muscles. It is appropriate to boil mugwort leaves (*Artemisiae Argyi Folium*) and old scallions daily for fumigation and washing first, then soaking. When the wound becomes warm and itchy, apply Huangla Gao (Yellow Wax Ointment) to promote contraction and healing. (From *Yizong Jinjian*)
*Guiyi Fang* records: Qingshebian (Green Snake Discharge) occurs below the calf, forming a mass about two to three cun in length. Severe chills and fever occur, and appetite is lost. This belongs to the Foot Shaoyin and Foot Taiyang meridians, caused by deficiency and damage of the Kidney meridian with damp-heat sinking downward. Cases where the head points upward are difficult to treat; those where the head points downward should be pricked to release foul blood. In elderly or weak patients presenting with vomiting, abdominal distension, coma, and restless pulse, death is inevitable. Wang Kentang stated: Qingshebian appears above and below the lower leg. If the head grows upward attacking into the abdomen, it is incurable. If the head grows downward with the tail above, it is a favorable condition and can be treated. (From *Yixue Zhunsheng*)
Shen Douyuan stated: Qingshebian is also known as Qingsheyong (Green Snake Carbuncle), appearing on the lower leg like a snake. The larger end is the head, and the smaller end is the tail. In the initial stage, diaphoresis (sweating method) is suitable for releasing the exterior. (From *Waike Xuanyuan*)
*Yizong Xinfa* states: Qingshedu (Green Snake Toxicity) is the same as Qingshebian, occurring below the calf. It is long, two to three cun, forming a swollen, purple-black, stiff mass with a large head and small tail. Symptoms include aversion to cold with high fever, burning pain, and anorexia. All these result from prior deficiency of the Kidney meridian and damp-heat sinking from the Bladder meridian. If the snake's head points downward, the toxicity is mild and superficial; urgently prick half a cun at the head to release purple-black blood. Apply Bading San (Pimple-Pulling Powder) around the needle hole, and externally apply Ligong Ding (Palace-Leaving Plaster). Internally administer Xianfang Huoming Yin (Immortal Formula for Saving Lives Decoction) added with Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix), and Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus). If the snake's head points upward, the toxicity is deep and severe; urgently prick one to two cun at the head to release purple-black blood. Insert a thin strip of Baijiang Dan (White Reduction Cinnabar) five to six fen into the needle hole. Externally apply Taiyi Gao (Supreme One Ointment) and Zijin Ding (Purple Gold Plaster). If the toxicity enters the abdomen causing vomiting, abdominal distension, coma, and restless pulse, all are adverse signs. (From *Yizong Jinjian*)
