[Divine Prescription] (by Patriarch Qi)
Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 8 liang) Coicis Semen (Yiyiren, 4 liang) Atractylodis Rhizoma (Baizhu) Poria (Fuling, 2 liang each) Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng, 5 qian) Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 3 qian)
Decoct with more than ten bowls of water until two bowls of liquid remain. Divide into two doses. Take one dose in the morning and one dose before sleep. After taking the medicine, cover with a thick quilt to induce profuse sweating. Do not lightly remove the quilt to let the sweat dry naturally; this will lead to recovery. One dose is sufficient; no need for further doses. (The brilliance of this prescription lies in using Astragali Radix to tonify Qi. The reason both legs can move and take steps is that Qi drives them. Now, in the disease of Crane's Knee, the person's Qi is deficient and cannot circulate fully, making walking naturally difficult. Using half a jin of Astragali Radix here makes the Qi extremely vigorous. It is assisted by Cinnamomi Cortex to unblock Qi, and by Saposhnikoviae Radix to disperse pathogens. Though they may seem antagonistic, they actually complement each other. It is also assisted by Atractylodis Rhizoma and Coicis Semen to dispel cold-dampness. Once the pathogenic factors are removed, the healthy Qi naturally consolidates, which is why the effect is achieved quickly. If one believes the body cannot tolerate it and fears using it, it will instead cause harm.)
[Another Prescription]
Astragali Radix (Huangqi, 4 liang) Coicis Semen (Yiyiren, 2 liang) Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma (Chuanbihe, 3 qian each) Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 2 liang) Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 1 qian) Gentianae Macrophyllae Radix (Qinjiao, 1.5 qian)
Decoct with eight large bowls of water until four bowls of liquid remain. Take three times a day (morning, noon, evening).
There is no need to cover up to induce sweating; sweating will occur naturally after ingestion. Sit quietly in a closed room and avoid exposure to wind. Only leave the room after the sweat has dried.
[Another Prescription]
Rehmanniae Radix Preparata (Huaidisheng) Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Niuxi, 3 qian each) Prepared Astragali Radix (Zhihuangqi) Atractylodis Rhizoma (Baizhu, stir-fried with earth) Paeoniae Radix Rubra (Chishaoyao) Siegesbeckiae Herba (Fangji) Dipsaci Radix (Chuanxuduan) Curcumae Longae Rhizoma (Jianghuang) Angelicae Dahuricae Radix (Duhuo, 1 qian each) Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui) Poria (Fuling, 1.5 qian each) Carthami Flos (Honghua) Cinnamomi Cortex (Rougui, 6 fen each)
Add two slices of Zingiberis Rhizoma Freshum (Shengjiang) and two dates (Zao), decoct and take. To make medicinal wine, increase all dosages by ten times: use twenty jin of Papaw Wine (Mugua Jiu) and four liang of Longan Aril (Longyanrou) for soaking and drinking.
[Another Prescription]
Zingiberis Rhizoma Freshum (Shengjiang) Allii Fistulosum (Cong, remove roots, 3 jin each)
Pound together to extract juice. Add half a cup of fermented rice distillery residue (Jiuzao) and boil down to one cup for use. First, mix a small amount of Moschus (Shexiang) with wine, apply to the palm, and rub onto the red areas of both knee pits until thoroughly penetrated. Then, apply the previously mentioned plaster spread on old oil paper to the affected area. The heat will feel like steaming, drawing out pores as small as needle eyes, allowing the leg to extend and flex again.

[Divine Prescription of Zhang Zhenren]
Raw Astragali Radix (Shenghuangjin, 1 jin) Dendrobii Caulis (Chai Shihu, 4 liang) Polygalae Radix (Yuanzhi Rou, this ingredient best strengthens the knees) Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix (Huainiuxi, 3 liang each)
Decoct with ten bowls of water until two bowls remain. Add one liang of Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (Jinyinhua) and decoct until one bowl remains. Take in one go. After ingestion, the feet will feel hot as if on fire. Let the patient sleep, cover with a thick quilt. Only remove the quilt when sweat appears at Yongquan (KI1); otherwise, absolutely do not remove it. One dose removes most of the disease; a second dose leads to full recovery. This applies regardless of whether the condition is acute or chronic.
