The Si Tian (Heavenly Ruler), Zai Quan (Earthly Ruler), and the four intermediate Qi (Intermediate Energies) each govern a period of sixty days and eighty-seven and a half ke (ancient time units). The Ke Qi (Guest Qi) operates according to the mandates of Heaven. Residing above the Zhu Qi (Host Qi), it gives rise to transformations of varying natures, such as warmth and coolness, cold and heat, obscurity and clarity, wind and rain, frost and snow, lightning and hail, and thunder. Could the spring warmth, summer heat, autumn coolness, and winter cold be entirely usurped by the Da Yun (Great Movement) and Qi? Thus, at those times, there would naturally be variations in intensity, whether slight or severe. This diagram illustrating the lateral connection of Guest Qi over sixty years is listed below the Host positions to indicate where the Qi resides.
Tai Yang (Guest Qi) Jue Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yin (Guest Qi) Tai Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yang (Guest Qi) Yang Ming (Guest Qi)
Jue Yin (First Phase: Cold Qi is fierce, with frost, snow, ice, and rain; strong winds cause plants to sprout, and rain generates hairy insects; hot Qi harms people, epidemic Qi circulates; wind and rain condense Yin Qi which does not dissipate; plague arrives; clear wind, fog, frost, and obscurity.)
Jue Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yin (Guest Qi) Tai Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yang (Usurping Guest Reversal) Yang Ming (Guest Qi) Tai Yang (Guest Qi) Shao Yin (Second Phase: Wind-warmth, rain generates hairy insects; epidemics occur throughout the world, righteous Qi attains its position; frequent rain; intense heat, epidemic febrile diseases circulate early; cool wind arrives irregularly; cold rain interspersed with heat.)
Shao Yin (Guest Qi) Tai Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yang (Guest Qi) Yang Ming (Guest Qi) Tai Yang (Guest Qi) Jue Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yang (Third Phase: Great heat and scorching light; thunderstorms, lightning, and hail; great heat and scorching light cause grass to wither and rivers to dry up; cool wind arises intermittently; cold Qi arrives intermittently, heat contention leads to hail; heavy rain falls greatly, generating feathered insects.)
Tai Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yang (Guest Qi) Yang Ming (Guest Qi) Tai Yang (Guest Qi) Jue Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yin (Guest Qi) Tai Yin (Fourth Phase: Heavy rain pours down, foggy rain, lightning, and thunder; heat boils; clear wind, fog, and dew; cold rain damages crops; wind and rain cause destruction, generating creeping insects; clouds float over mountains and marshes, torrential rain brings humid dampness.)
Shao Yang (Guest Qi) Yang Ming (Guest Qi) Tai Yang (Guest Qi) Jue Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yin (Guest Qi) Tai Yin (Guest Qi) Yang Ming (Fifth Phase: Warm winds arrive; all things flourish; great coolness and dryness; early cold; strong cool winds arise, generating shelled insects; autumn temperature is warm and hot, febrile diseases circulate; frequent rain, deep gloom.)
Yang Ming (Guest Qi) Tai Yang (Guest Qi) Jue Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yin (Guest Qi) Tai Yin (Guest Qi) Shao Yang (Guest Qi) Tai Yang (Sixth Phase/End Phase: Dry and cold are piercing; severe cold freezes solid; cold winds blow, generating scaled insects; hibernating insects emerge, seeing flowing water that does not freeze; condensed Yin and cold, snowy ground with moist Earth Qi; winter warmth, hibernating insects appear, flowing water does not freeze.)
