[Symptoms of Accumulated Cold Diarrhea] The abdomen aches with a continuous, dull pain; the urine is not red; the lips are not dry; the stool is clear, white, and watery like duck feces. This indicates diarrhea caused by accumulated cold.
[Etiology of Accumulated Cold Diarrhea] It may result from consuming cold foods that damage the stomach and intestines, allowing cold to descend into the large intestine; or from physical exposure to cold and drinking cold water that damages Lung Qi, allowing cold to descend into the large intestine. When the Yangming and Taiyin meridians are affected by cold, they all form diarrhea due to cold accumulation.
[Pulse of Accumulated Cold Diarrhea] The pulse is deep, fine, and slow. It may also be deep and wiry, or deep and knotted. A deep and slow pulse at the Right Guan position indicates accumulated cold in the stomach and intestines; a deep and slow pulse at the Right Cun position [indicates cold affecting the lungs].
[Treatment of Accumulated Cold Diarrhea] For internal stagnation of cold accumulation, use Cao Kou Wan (Cardamom Pill). For deficiency-cold of the stomach and intestines, Li Zhong Tang (Regulate the Middle Decoction) is appropriate; for severe cases, Bu Zhong Tang (Tonify the Middle Decoction) should be used. If the lungs are affected by cold...

[Symptoms of Phlegm-Accumulation Diarrhea] Diarrhea may occur intermittently, varying in volume. Sometimes white, gelatinous material resembling egg white is passed. There may be gurgling sounds in the abdomen, sounding like thunder, or stabbing pain attacking the hypochondriac regions. This is diarrhea caused by phlegm accumulation.
[Etiology of Phlegm-Accumulation Diarrhea] Improper diet, lying down immediately after eating, indulging in rich and sweet foods, or swallowing food hastily during meals can make digestion difficult. This gradually forms phlegm accumulation, which flows downward into the large intestine, resulting in diarrhea.
[Pulse of Phlegm-Accumulation Diarrhea] The pulse may appear wiry and slippery. A wiry pulse indicates cold-fluid retention; a slippery pulse indicates phlegm binding. A wiry, slippery, and rapid pulse indicates phlegm combined with accumulated heat.
[Treatment of Phlegm-Accumulation Diarrhea] Use Er Chen Ping Wei San (Two-Cured and Stomach-Pacifying Powder). If the pulse is slippery and excess, use Dao Tan Tang (Guide Out Phlegm Decoction). If there are signs indicating purgation is needed, add Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) and Xuan Ming Fen (Mirabilite), employing the "treat obstruction with unblocking" method (Tong Yin Tong Yong).
In cases where phlegm accumulation is in the lungs and transfers to the large intestine, clearing phlegm from the Lung meridian will naturally stop the large intestine's diarrhea. Use Jie Zai Hua Tan Wan (Jie Zai Phlegm-Resolving Pill).
Er Chen Ping Wei San Is identical to Ping Wei San (Stomach-Pacifying Powder), added with Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) and Fu Ling (Poria).
