[Symptoms of Vomiting due to Dryness-Fire]
Asthma with counterflow and vomiting occur; upon vomiting, the breath becomes rapid; dry heaving is difficult; the lips are dry; there is vexation, thirst, and a desire to drink. This constitutes vomiting due to Dryness-Fire (Zao Huo Fan Ou).
[Causes of Vomiting due to Dryness-Fire]
When Dryness Qi dominates, heat accumulates in the Lung and Stomach. Heat aggravates heat, and dryness injures dryness, thereby causing various symptoms of asthma and vomiting.
[Pulse Signs of Vomiting due to Dryness-Fire]
The pulse at the Right Cun position is Floating and Rapid (Fu Shu), indicating Dryness Evil injuring the Lung. The pulse at the Right Guan position is Rapid and Large (Shu Da), indicating Dryness Evil injuring the Stomach.
[Treatment of Vomiting due to Dryness-Fire]
Use Qing Zao Tang (Clearing Dryness Decoction) with added juice of Reed Rhizome (Lu Gen). Alternatively, use Gegen Shigao Tang (Pueraria and Gypsum Decoction) or Mendong Zhimu Tang (Ophiopogon and Anemarrhena Decoction).
Qing Zao Tang (Clearing Dryness Decoction)
Ingredients: Zhimu (Anemarrhenae Rhizoma), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum), Maidong (Ophiopogonis Radix), Pipa Ye (Loquat Leaf), Gan Ge (Puerariae Radix), Zhu Ru (Bambusae Caulis in Recession), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma).

[Symptoms of Vomiting due to Damp-Heat]
Internal heat with vexation, bad breath, body fever, yellowish swelling of the face and eyes, chest and epigastric fullness with nausea, and vomiting upon smelling grain odor. This constitutes vomiting due to Damp-Heat (Shi Re Fan Ou).
[Causes of Vomiting due to Damp-Heat]
The intestines and stomach harbor accumulated heat from before. Upon encountering external seasonal pathogens, the internal and external heats steam each other, attacking the clear pathways (upper jiao), resulting in vomiting due to Damp-Heat.
[Pulse Signs of Vomiting due to Damp-Heat]
The pulse is mostly Rapid and Large. Floating and Rapid indicates the pathogen is in the Exterior; Sinking and Rapid indicates the pathogen is in the Interior. A Rapid pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Damp-Heat in the intestines and stomach.
[Treatment of Vomiting due to Damp-Heat]
If there is bad breath and vexation due to pre-existing accumulated heat, use the Author's Secret Qing Wei Tang (Clearing Stomach Decoction). If there is yellowish swelling of the face and eyes, add Fang Feng (Saposhnikoviae Radix) and Bai Zhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix). If there is chest/epigastric fullness and nausea, use Ping Wei Er Chen Tang (Calm the Stomach and Two-Chen Decoction) with added Zhu Ru (Bambusae Caulis in Recession) and Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix). If Damp-Heat is severe, add Shan Zhi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma).

Vomiting immediately after eating; the vomitus tastes sour or bitter; vexation and heat in the five centers (palms, soles, and heart); restless sleep at night; dry mouth and thirst; obstruction and difficulty in urination and defecation. These are the symptoms of vomiting due to Stomach Fire (Wei Huo Fan Ou).
[Causes of Vomiting due to Stomach Fire]
Anger may injure the Liver, causing Liver Fire to flare intermittently; worry and thought may cause stagnation, generating Fire from the Spleen; excessive consumption of rich and greasy food may generate Fire in the Stomach; Yin deficiency with hyperactive Fire may cause Ministerial Fire to rush upward. As Fire Qi flares upward, vomiting occurs.
[Pulse Signs of Vomiting due to Stomach Fire]
The pulse is mostly Surging and Rapid. A Surging and Rapid pulse at the Left Guan position indicates Liver and Gallbladder Fire. A Surging and Rapid pulse at the Right Guan position indicates Fire in the Spleen and Stomach. If Ministerial Fire rushes upward...
