[Symptoms of Soreness and Weakness due to Damp-Heat] Headache with stiffness in the neck, vexatious pain in bone joints, fever with profuse sweating, coldness reversing up from the lower calves, generalized soreness and weakness throughout the body, mental restlessness with chest oppression and a desire to drink, chest fullness and vomiting. These are the symptoms of soreness and weakness due to damp-heat.
[Causes of Soreness and Weakness due to Damp-Heat] The dampness of the earth rises, and the heat of heaven descends; the qi of damp-heat fills the space between heaven and earth. Humans are injured by this pathogenic damp-heat.
[Pulse Patterns of Soreness and Weakness due to Damp-Heat] A floating and rapid pulse on the left indicates Taiyang (Greater Yang) damp-heat. A rapid pulse at the right Guan position indicates Yangming (Yang Brightness) damp-heat. Wiry and rapid pulses in all six positions indicate Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) damp-heat.
[Treatment of Soreness and Weakness due to Damp-Heat] Headache with neck stiffness, vexatious pain in bone joints, and coldness reversing up from the lower calves constitute a Taiyang exterior syndrome; treat with Qianghuo Fangfeng Tang (Notopterygium and Saposhnikovia Decoction). If there is sweating, combine with Shenzhu Tang (Divine Efficacy Decoction). Fever with profuse sweating, irritability, and thirst constitute a Yangming channel syndrome; treat with Gegen Tang (Kudzu Decoction), combined with Shenzhu Tang. Alternating chills and fever, chest fullness, and vomiting constitute a Shaoyang channel syndrome; treat with Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction), combined with Shenzhu Tang. For concurrent Yangming and Shaoyang syndromes, use Shenghui Fang (Supreme Benefit Formula, described as "exquisite").

Shenghui Fang (Supreme Benefit Formula) See previous section. Family-secret essential formula for treating soreness and weakness.
[Symptoms of Soreness and Weakness due to Phlegm-Fluid] Chest discomfort, nausea and postprandial fullness, sometimes heavy and sluggish limbs unable to move, or a patch of ice-cold sensation on the back like stone, sometimes occurring every other day resembling malaria. These are the symptoms of soreness and weakness due to phlegm-fluid.
[Causes of Soreness and Weakness due to Phlegm-Fluid] Overeating causes stagnation and accumulation in the Middle Jiao. When heat qi prevails, it forms stubborn and knotted phlegm; when water qi prevails, it forms lingering and hidden fluids. Accumulating in the Stomach and attacking the hands, feet, shoulders, and back, these symptoms of soreness and weakness arise.
[Pulse Patterns of Soreness and Weakness due to Phlegm-Fluid] A slippery pulse at the right Guan position indicates phlegm in the Stomach. A wiry and slippery pulse at the left Guan position indicates retained saliva/phlegm in the Liver and Gallbladder. A slippery but not rapid pulse indicates lingering and hidden fluids.
[Treatment of Soreness and Weakness due to Phlegm-Fluid] For a slippery pulse at the right Guan position with nausea and postprandial fullness, use Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction) and Pingwei Erchen Tang (Stabilize the Spleen and Two-Chen Decoction). For an ice-cold sensation on the back, use Shuizhu Jinhua Wan (Water-Boiled Golden Flower Pill). For limbs unable to move with solid stool, use Zhimi Wan (Point-to-Mystery Pill). For occurrences every other day, use Pingwei Erchen Tang. For a wiry and rapid pulse at the left Guan position with distension under the hypochondrium...
