[Symptoms of Exogenous Dry Thirst] After cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, there is a feeling of oppression and irritability in the epigastrium, thirst with desire to drink, and dryness of the lips and mouth. This is because Yang fire (Yang heat pathogen) is internal, and heat consumes water fluids.
[Etiology of Exogenous Dry Thirst] At the transition between summer and autumn, summer-heat and heat pathogens injure the human body. Vomiting and diarrhea occur simultaneously, dispersing the pathogenic factors from above and below, thereby inducing irritability and dry thirst.
[Pulse of Exogenous Dry Thirst] The pulse is mostly Chen-Hua (Deep and Slippery), or may appear as Chen-Shu (Deep and Rapid), or Zao-Ji (Restless and Rapid).
[Treatment of Exogenous Dry Thirst] Use Zhimu Shigao Tang (Anemarrhena and Gypsum Decoction), or Gegen Qingwei Tang (Kudzu Root Stomach-Clearing Decoction), Renshen Baihu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction), or alternatively Qingfei Yin (Lung-Clearing Infusion) and Zhike Tang (Thirst-Stopping Decoction).
Zhimu Shigao Tang (Anemarrhena and Gypsum Decoction)
Herbs: Anemarrhenae Rhizoma (Zhimu), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Oryza Sativa (Jingmi), Bambusae Caulis in Taeniam Succus (Zhuli).
Add Juncus Effusus (Dengxin). For deficient persons, add Ginseng Radix (Renshen). For severe thirst, add Trichosanthis Radix (Tianhuafen).
Gegen Qingwei Tang (Kudzu Root Stomach-Clearing Decoction)
Herbs: Coptidis Rhizoma (Huanglian), Puerariae Lobatae Radix (Gegen), Cimicifugae Rhizoma (Shengma), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi), Gardeniae Fructus (Zhizi), Moutan Cortex (Danpi).

[Symptoms of Endogenous Dry Thirst] After vomiting and diarrhea, there is mental restlessness and thirst, but no desire to drink, inability to transform fluids, a sensation of dryness in the mouth while the lips and tongue remain moist. This is due to...
[Etiology of Endogenous Dry Thirst] Following severe vomiting and diarrhea, body fluids are severely depleted. The loss of Yin fluids leads to spiritual agitation, chaotic thoughts, and mental irritability, resulting in endogenous dry thirst.
[Pulse of Endogenous Dry Thirst] The pulse is Chen-Xi-Ruan (Deep, Fine, and Soft), or may appear Zao-Ji (Restless and Rapid), Chen-Xi-Shu (Deep, Fine, and Rapid), or Fu-Da-Kong (Floating, Large, and Empty).
[Treatment of Endogenous Dry Thirst] If the pulse is Xi-Ruan (Fine and Soft), use Renshen Shengmai San (Ginseng Pulse-Generating Powder) and Renshen Zhuli Tang (Ginseng Bamboo Sap Decoction). If the pulse is Xi-Shu (Fine and Rapid), use Liujia Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill). Regarding the pulse...

[Symptoms of Gan Huoluan / Dry Cholera] The body is feverish and irritable, with colicky pain in the chest and abdomen, cold extremities, obstruction of ascending and descending Qi mechanisms, without vomiting or diarrhea. This is named Gan Huoluan (Dry Cholera).
[Etiology of Gan Huoluan / Dry Cholera] Accumulated warmth matures into summer-heat; accumulated heat becomes dryness. Additionally, one contracts the epidemic dry-heat Qi. External steaming and internal brewing cause extreme dryness in the middle jiao. Qi cannot flow freely, preventing vomiting upwards and diarrhea downwards, thus forming Gan Huoluan.
[Pulse of Gan Huoluan / Dry Cholera] The pulse is mostly Chen-Fu (Deep and Hidden), or may appear Hong-Shu (Surging and Rapid), Hua-Da (Slippery and Large), or Chen-Shu (Deep and Rapid).
[Treatment of Gan Huoluan / Dry Cholera] If pain is in the Upper Jiao, induce vomiting using cold salt water. If pain is in the Middle Jiao, urgently needle Wezhong (BL40) and Shaoshang (LU11), and prick the ten fingertips to bleed. Decoct Huoxiang Tang (Agastache Decoction), mix with Yiyuan San (Benefit Primordial Powder), to lubricate and smooth the Large Intestine. If the pulse is Chen-Fu (Deep and Hidden), use Qi-moving herbs to unblock the meridians.
Huoxiang Tang (Agastache Decoction) mixed with Liuyi San (Six-to-One Powder), taken warm.
