When the rash is about to erupt but has not yet fully appeared, it is advisable to disperse and vent early to resolve its toxicity, thereby preventing residual disasters. If one fails to resolve it in advance and allows the toxin to fully emerge, leading to the accumulation of toxin within, it may result in high fever; over time, this causes emaciation and exhaustion, or develops into epilepsy (convulsions), diarrhea or dysentery, hemoptysis with panting, or even death from infantile malnutrition (Gan syndrome). Although this is an infection by a pathogenic qi (virulent infectious agent) for a short period, there is no case that does not stem from inadequate human management or care.
After the rash subsides, if there is slight fever in the body, this is deficiency heat. No treatment is required; wait for the Qi and blood to harmonize and flow smoothly, and it will naturally subside. If the fever is too severe or persists for a long time without abating, use Chaihu Maidong San (Bupleurum and Ophiopogon Powder). In severe cases, combine Huanglian Jiedu Tang (Coptis Decoction for Resolving Toxicity) [formula seen previously] with Renshen Baihu Tang (Ginseng White Tiger Decoction) [formula seen previously], administering them alternately with the previous formula. If hair becomes dry and brittle, standing erect, muscles waste away, bones become prominent, and the patient gradually becomes emaciated, Chaihu Siwu Tang (Bupleurum Four Substances Decoction) is the primary prescription.
