Pig Heart (If spontaneous sweating occurs due to Heart Qi deficiency, cook and eat it together with Ginseng; this is very effective.)
Pig Kidney (Can treat night sweats, postpartum exhaustion, and night sweats; cook into porridge and eat.)
Wheat Flour (Can stop night sweats.)
Fermented Soybeans (Can stop night sweats; grind into powder and take with wine.)
Steamed Dough Cakes (Eat one every night to stop night sweats and spontaneous sweating.)
A scholar suffered from night sweats. Every night, his blankets were soaked through several layers. When the bed curtain was opened, the heat rose like fog. I prescribed Danggui Liuhuang Tang (Angelica Sinensis Six-Huang Decoction), making dozens of modifications over many doses. The symptoms reduced by only two or three parts out of ten, without full recovery. Upon examining the six pulses, they were all deep and hidden (Fu Chen), indicating extreme deficiency. I added 0.7 qian of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and increased Huangqin (Scutellariae Radix) to three times the original dose. Additionally, I decocted 0.3 qian of Fuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) using urine from a healthy child (Tongbian). After one dose, the fever subsided, and sweating stopped by half. After another dose, the sweating disorder was also cured.
Jing (Essence) is the purest essence of Blood. The Classics state: "When Yang is balanced and Yin is secure, Spirit and Essence are governed; when Yin and Yang separate and rupture, Spirit and Essence are exhausted." Due to the deficiency and decline of Kidney Water, Heart Fire moves recklessly, causing Kidney Water to lose its tranquility. Consequently, Jing leaks without restraint. Tracing back to the root causes, there are four types. Why?
First, there is emission accompanied by dreams (Meng Yi). This is caused by Fire moving and Water boiling, with the Spirit wandering and Essence leaking. This results from the Mind failing to cultivate virtue and chaotic desires. The treatment method should prioritize nourishing the Heart and calming the Spirit, assisted by tonifying the Kidney and securing the orifices.
Second, there is emission due to weakness in the Lower Yuan, where Spirit and Essence overflow. This is caused by Kidney decline failing to grasp and hold, and the Jade Gate (Jade Gate/Orifice of Essence) lacking restraint, leading to reckless leakage of Essence. The treatment method should prioritize tonifying the Kidney, assisted by astringing Essence.
Third, there is emission in young individuals with robust Qi and vitality, resulting from long-term abstinence from sexual intercourse, which causes stagnation in the meridians. This is due to fullness of Essence after prolonged abstinence, leading to natural overflow. It only needs to be allowed to discharge to return to balance naturally.
Fourth, there is emission caused by emotional arousal within, where desires are unfulfilled. Simply allowing the emotions to flow will stop it spontaneously; medication may not even be necessary.
Among these four, Meng Yi (Dream Emission) is the most severe. Because it involves both mental exertion and depletion of Essence, the mechanism of Phlegm-Fire often originates here. How can it be viewed lightly?
The Sages say that the purest part of Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) transforms into Jing (Essence) and gathers in the Mingmen (Gate of Life). Mingmen is the mansion of Jing and Blood. The Classics state: "At age sixteen (two eight-years), the Yang Jing rises, accumulating approximately one sheng and two he. If nurtured and filled, it can reach three sheng; if damaged and lost, it falls below one sheng." To say Jing is potent is because Jing cannot transform without Blood. To say Jing is precious is because Jing cannot be nourished without Qi. Therefore, abundant Blood leads to abundant Jing, and gathered Qi leads to full Jing. This is akin to ocean tides, driven by the Yang Qi between Heaven and Earth. Thus, Qi, Blood, and Jing share the same source but have different flows, taking different paths but arriving at the same destination. *Qisi Zhenquan* also states: Jing is like extracting Mercury from Cinnabar. The method places Cinnabar in a tripod and forces it with fire, causing the Mercury to emerge. In marital intercourse, lustful Fire must move for Essence to leak. Thus, Daoist alchemists use Mercury and Lead as metaphors for Jing and Blood, reflecting this meaning. However, although Jing is indeed the purest part of Ying Qi, the single drop of True Water in the Kidney is born from Wuji (Limitless) and generated from Taiji (Supreme Ultimate). It has form and substance, is difficult to form but easy to lose. Both men and women possess this substance. Therefore, excessive desire in either sex can lead to Water deficiency and Yin deficiency with Fire hyperactivity, revealing the underlying principle. The statement "Jing is full at age sixteen" likely refers to turbid yin substances transformed from rich dietary fluids, clarified and stored, then transported by Lung Qi back to the Kidney. Like wine mixed with water, it requires the floating aroma and taste to become full. Thus, wealthy people, despite indulging in lust, alcohol, and color, do not necessarily develop Phlegm-Fire diseases. This is because their daily diet of rich meats provides ample nutrients, so even frequent ejaculation does not immediately cause thirst. As for Tianyi's True Jing (Primordial Essence), it is formed by parents' congenital essence and is the supreme treasure of the human body. Can it be frequently and recklessly leaked? Without the assistance of rich dietary essences, like the true alcohol in wine, how can it be frequently wasted and consumed? If commoners indulge like the wealthy, few would remain free of disease. Moreover, regarding the syndrome of Meng Yi (Dream Emission), excessive desire and mental labor cause Kan (Water/Kidney) and Li (Fire/Heart) to fail to interact, and Water and Fire to remain unbalanced. Mental labor steals Essence; the Heart fails to govern the Spirit; the Kidney fails to grasp Essence. The Spirit wanders wildly, leading to emission upon dreaming. Its severity surpasses other forms of emission for this reason. The treatment method should drain the South (Heart Fire), tonify the North (Kidney Water), benefit True Fire, and strengthen True Water, thereby grasping the profound nature of the condition.
