Throat Polypus (Hou'e), a condition, is also very dangerous for the patient. It is often observed that upon onset, there is sore throat, salivation, and redness and swelling inside and outside the throat. In severe cases, the glottis closes tightly, making breathing difficult; in mild cases, although unbearable pain prevents eating, the situation is slightly better. For emergency relief, only the method of Bian needling (Bianci, stone needle therapy) should be used. This involves breaking fine porcelain into fragments, selecting those with sharp edges, splitting a chopstick into four parts, sandwiching a magnetic needle between them, leaving the sharp tip exposed. After needling, tie the chopsticks tightly with green thread at the point where they clamp the needle to prevent it from slipping out. Ask the patient to open their mouth in a well-lit area. Use another chopstick inserted into the mouth to press the tongue tip down, allowing a clear view of the interior of the throat: Redness and swelling indicate Excess Syndrome (Shi Zheng); whiteness indicates Deficiency Syndrome (Xu Zheng) or Diphtheria (Bai Hou). Whiteness must not be treated with needles; redness and swelling indicate Throat Polypus, which requires Bian needling. However, if purple veins are present, this indicates blood stasis in the vessels, and needles must not be used on them. For other red and swollen areas, gently puncture the skin surface two or three times with a magnetic needle until bleeding occurs. Then rinse the mouth with warm water. Once phlegm and blood are expectorated, apply Chui Hou San (Blowing Throat Powder) to the throat, holding it without swallowing. Subsequently, administer herbs that resolve phlegm and transform blood stasis, leading to rapid recovery. Medications should avoid bitter-cold and acrid-drying substances, as well as cold foods that cause stagnation. Violating these precautions leads to lingering and difficult-to-cure conditions. Particularly, one must avoid stimulating foods (Fa Wei) and alcoholic beverages. Patients must pay close attention to this. If Shaoyin Deficiency Fire flares upward, causing slight throat pain without redness or swelling, Zhongjing's Jiegeng Tang (Platycodon Decoction) is effective when taken before sleep. Regarding Diphtheria (Bai Hou), not only is needling contraindicated, but acrid-warming exterior-releasing herbs are also strictly forbidden. Violating this is dangerous and difficult to treat. The book *Bai Hou Ji Biao Jue Wei* (Clarifying the Secrets of Avoiding Exterior-Release in Diphtheria) discusses this in detail.
