Yangmei (Mapleberry) sore refers to lesions that cluster in groups of three to five, and after ulceration, resemble a mapleberry. This disease originated from the West, spreading to Guangdong province, and subsequently蔓延 (spread) to various other provinces. There are two distinct types: "Jing-hua" (Essence-transmission) and "Qi-hua" (Qi-transmission). The Jing-hua type is contracted through sexual intercourse; it initially manifests as sores on the external genitalia and anus, then spreads throughout the body, reaching up to the vertex and hairline. Wherever pores exist, small fleshy tumors appear initially, which gradually become itchy and ulcerate, discharging foul fluid. Cases leading to mutilation of the lips and forehead, disability, or death are countless. The Qi-hua type is transmitted via surface contact. For instance, sharing a bed or bathing with an infected person can transmit the toxin. Sores first appear on the upper body before extending to the entire body. However, the toxicity is slightly milder than in the Jing-hua type, and the dosage of medication can be reduced. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments historically often employed Sheng Yao (Calomel/Red Sublimate), causing the toxin to ascend and attack upwards, resulting in numerous adverse effects. Subsequent use of tonics further trapped the toxin internally, making it impossible to purge or drain, leading to many deaths. My prescription's efficacy was derived from Mr. Cheng of Mayi. It focuses primarily on strengthening the Spleen and draining toxins. Taking it causes no harm; instead, it strengthens the Spleen and clarifies the Spirit (Shen), allowing for normal appetite without restriction. Recovery occurs within the expected timeframe, with consistent success in trials, making it truly a miraculous formula. Alas! I often see young, ambitious individuals who occasionally fall into this trap. Minor consequences affect health, while major ones endanger life. Obtaining this formula serves as a boat navigating the sea of suffering. In contrast, Eastern and Western countries have established medical police to prevent outbreaks beforehand and hospitals to treat patients after onset, which is why the incidence of this disease has decreased daily.
Prescription for Treating Yangmei Sore:
Tu Fuling (Smilax Glabrae Rhizoma, 2 jin), Jinyinhua (Lonicerae Japonicae Flos, 8 liang), Sheng Yiren (Coicis Semen, 4 liang), Baixianpi (Dictamni Cortex, 3 liang), Tianhuafen (Trichosanthis Radix, 2 liang), Danggui Wei (Angelicae Sinensis Radix, 2 liang), Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica, 5 qian), Qing Lianqiao (Forsythiae Fructum, 1 liang), Bai Zhuling (Polyporus, 2 liang), Jian Zexie (Alismatis Rhizoma, 2 liang), Chen Huaijiao (Sophorae Tonkinensis Fructus, 4 liang), Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen, 2 liang), Jiao Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus, 4 qian), Niubangzi (Arctii Fructus, 5 qian), Sheng Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, 4 liang), Jing Chanyi (Bombyx Batryticatus, 3 qian), Weilingxian (Syneilesidis Rhizoma, 2 qian), Xuan Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructum, 2 liang), Mu Fangji (Stephaniae Tetrandrae Rhizoma, 1 liang), Zaojiaozi (Gleditsiae Sinensis Semen, 10 grains).
Place all the above ingredients into a pot. Boil three times using firewood. After each boil, strain the dregs through cloth. Discard the dregs. Combine the liquid extracts from the three boils back into the pot. Continue boiling, starting with high heat (Wu Huo) and reducing to low heat (Wen Huo). Add rock sugar to form a paste (Gao). Store in a well-ventilated area, covered with a rice sieve. Drink several bowls daily as tea. When black stools are passed, the toxin begins to exit. Severe cases may recover with half a dose; mild cases may recover with one dose. The remaining dregs can also be boiled for bathing water. Strictly avoid wheat-based foods and tea, as these counteract the efficacy of Tu Fuling. Do not use external applications. If adjustments are needed due to variations in climate, geography, or individual circumstances, modify the prescription accordingly, adhering to the principle of treating according to time and place. However, do not use Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Lu Rong (Cervicornium), Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Xin Yi (Magnoliae Flos), or Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), as these may cause the toxin to become internally trapped and unable to exit. Recently, some people have recovered by decocting large amounts of Huai Hua (Sophorae Flos) and drinking the juice, which is another method to remove damp-heat and eliminate toxic pathogens.
