To treat summerheat invasion in summer. Latent heat induces miasma, causing irritability and thirst, as well as dysregulation of the Heart and Spleen leading to cholera with vomiting and diarrhea, or malaria or dysentery, or coughing.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Sha Ren (Amomi Fructus), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Xing Ren (Prunus Seed), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), Bian Dou (Vigna Seed), Huo Xiang (Pogostemon Herb), Fu Ling (Poria), Mu Gua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Xiang Ru (Elsholtzia Herb), Hou Po (Magnolia Bark).
The above herbs are processed into a powder. Take 4 qian per dose, decocted with 3 slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) and 1 Zao (Jujube Fruit).
To treat Malaria due to Miasma (Zhang Nue), characterized by high fever, wiry and rapid pulse that remains unrelieved upon deep pressure, headache, and eye pain.
Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Zi Su Ye (Perilla Leaf), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Ge Gen (Kudzu Root), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber) (each 2 qian); Fu Ling (Poria), Chen Pi (Citrus Peel), Jie Geng (Platycodon Root), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus) (each 5 qian).
Decoct with 7 slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) and 1 Zao (Jujube Fruit). Take orally at any time. If there is headache or eye pain,
add Chuan Xiong (Ligusticum Rhizome). It is heard that in places where Yang Qi is constantly depleted, those who contract illness, although having body heat, often have internal cold. This is precisely what the classics state: "When the heat has not yet subsided, the cold disease begins again." Furthermore, Wang Shuhe
said, "In cases with heat, one must not attack too aggressively." Once the heat is removed, the cold arises; this is what is meant. Therefore, for Malaria caused by excessive heat in low-lying damp areas, both the She Sheng Fang (Preservation Formulas) and Wei Sheng Fang (Hygiene Formulas) consider the disease deep-seated and difficult to treat.
Shen Su Yin (Ginseng and Perilla Decoction) is not suitable for all cases. For instance, when the pulse is deficient, the interior is weak, accompanied by irritability and heat, Wei Sheng Fang treats it with Leng Tang (Cold Soup) delivering Sheng Jiang Fu Zi Tang (Fresh Ginger and Aconite Decoction), which is very effective. I learned from Doctor Zhou in Huangchuan that
recently, three or four cases presented with severe heat. They used Fu Zi (Aconite Lateralis Radix Preparata) and Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) with a small amount of She Xiang (Musk), mixed with drawn well water and administered. The patient felt an immediate cooling sensation in the heart region and recovered immediately, without needing further doses.
To treat Malaria lasting more than fourteen days, where heat persists, and the pulse is wiry, rapid, and forceful.
Chai Hu (Bupleuri Radix), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root) (stir-baked until black), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), Chen Pi (Citrus Peel), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Cang Zhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma), Hou Po (Magnolia Bark).
Decoct the above herbs with 3 slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) and 1 Zao (Jujube Fruit).
To treat Malaria, characterized by fever and irritability, desire for drinking, constipation, red and scanty urine, delirious speech, internal heat, and coma with loss of consciousness.
Huang Qi (Astragali Radix), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix), Chen Pi (Citrus Peel), Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Gui Xin (Cinnamomi Ramulus Cortex), Xi Xin (Asari Radix et Rhizoma), Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Chao Shao Yao (Paeoniae Radix Alba stir-fried), Fu Ling (Poria), Ban Xia (Pinellia Tuber), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Mai Dong (Ophiopogonis Tuber).
All herbs in equal proportions. Decoct with 3 slices of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger) and 1 Zao (Jujube Fruit). Take warm.
