Nanmuxiang (Costi Rhizoma, 1 liang 5 qian, remove rhizome base) Dingxiang (Caryophylli Flos, 1 liang 5 qian) Ganjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Preparatum, 1 liang, processed) Roudoukou (Myristicae Semen, 20 grains, peel, crush, remove oil) Baicaoshuang (Siccus Carbonis Herbae, 2 liang, grind into fine powder) Badou (Crotonis Fructus, 70 grains, remove heart, remove oil) Xingren (Armeniacae Semen Amarum, 40 grains, remove skin and tip, grind into paste)
First, grind the aforementioned four herbs into powder. Mix uniformly with Baicaoshuang and Xingren. Then melt 6 liang of high-quality yellow beeswax (Huangla, 黄蜡) into liquid. Filter through double-layered cotton cloth to remove dregs. Add 1 sheng of good wine into a silver or earthenware vessel.
Boil the wax several times until boiling. Pour out and wait for the wine to cool. The wax will naturally float to the surface. Collect the wax for use. Prepared during spring and summer. Use 1 liang 5 qian of clear sesame oil (Qingyou, 清油). First, heat it in a ding (a type of pot) until the aroma is preserved and it is cooked thoroughly. Then add 4 liang of the previously boiled wax to melt into liquid. Stir and mix in the ding. Combine with the previous herb powders to form ingots. Wrap each in oiled paper and roll into pills. Take 10 pills per dose. Size similar to mung beans. Send down with ginger decoction (Jiangtang, 姜汤). Alternatively, sending down with Chenpi Banxia Tang (Tangerine Peel and Pinellia Decoction) is also acceptable.
To treat zhang disease (Miasma Disease) characterized by internal weakness and fever. Or alternating chills and fever. Phlegm rebellion and vomiting. Headache and body ache. Or excessive sweating with irritability. Thirst with desire to drink or spontaneous diarrhea. Red urine. Also primarily treats sudden wind-stroke.
Heifuzi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata, one large piece weighing over 1 liang, processed, remove skin and umbilicus)
Divide into four doses. For each dose, add 10 slices of fresh ginger. Decoct and take warm. If cold administration is desired, wait until it cools before taking. Time is not restricted.
In zhang disease, symptoms of phlegm rebellion, vomiting, and spontaneous diarrhea indicate that Spleen Earth lacks Yang Qi, constituting a deficiency-cold syndrome. Excessive sweating indicates Yang Qi leaking outward. Irritability, thirst with desire to drink, and red urine are caused by Yang Qi floating upward, leading to scorching and drying of the Heart and Lung. Headache and heart pain indicate severe external deficiency-cold. This formula uses the pungent and hot nature of Fuzi (Aconite) to warm the Spleen and consolidate leaking Yang Qi. Assisted by Shengjiang (Fresh Ginger), it disperses external cold. When taken cold, it guides the heat of the Heart and Lung downward, eliminating old cold in the Lower Jiao. Using heat to attack heat, it is an excellent prescription for treating severe zhang disease. The general principle refers to the discussion on Fuzi.
